Discipline is a branch of knowledge especially one studied in higher education. The different areas of expertise include arts, general knowledge, human sciences, mathematics, ethics, and history. There is always a difference in perspective over the disciplines as mentioned earlier as concerns knowledge claims. The difference comes about as a result of factors such as faith, perception. Personal experience, reason and general knowledge. As matters pertaining knowledge claims, it is essential to differentiate between conviction and certainty, truth and knowledge, knowledge and culture, creativity and innovation, assumption and generalization.


The two areas of knowledge will be used to elaborate the fact; ethics and science thoroughly.


In ethics, knowledge varies due to factors such as faith and belief. Morals differ from one person to another for example, among the Catholic believers, it is wrong to use contraceptives as it is believed that man is to multiply and thus human beings should not interfere with that.


According to science, contraceptives are just okay as scientific research and experiment have proved that.


Knowledge claims in science are considered universal and absolute truth while knowledge claims in ethics may vary according to persons or from one society to another.


Knowledge claims in ethics are more of gotten from personal knowledge, intuition and perception as compared to knowledge claims in science that are mostly from shred knowledge that is as a result of evidence and experiment.


Reason in knowledge claims differs from ethics to science.For example, according to science, it is reasonable for ethunasia to take place as it is believed to save one from pain whereas in ethics. Mercy killing is morally wrong as it is thought that it is only God who can take away life as he is the only one who gives it.


Instinct plays a significant role in matters pertaining knowledge claims in ethics as compared to science.For example.instinct will inform one that it is morally wrong to carry out specific activities that are harmful to the environment such as careless disposal of litter and cutting down of trees that may affect rain formation whereas, in science, it takes more than the instinct for one to avoid such activities.It also requires education on top of that coupled with experiments scientifically.


There is assumption pertaining knowledge claims associated with ethics, but there are rare assumptions in knowledge claims related to science.


Similarities in knowledge claims pertaining ethics and science


Some knowledge claims in ethics and science are based on general knowledge. For example, taking care of the environment is widespread and common knowledge both morally and scientifically despite the different reasons; ethically because one is expected to keep their environment clean and accurately because there are benefits evidenced from taking care of the environment.


Knowledge claims in both ethics and sciences can be accrued from shared or personal knowledge.


In both ethics and science knowledge claims, there are expectations.


In both science and ethics knowledge claims, there are universal emotional responses and kind of common sense, for example, the destruction of the ozone layer, mass killings, and abortion evoke a global emotional reaction both morally and scientifically.


In both ethics and science knowledge claims, there are general groundworks of explanation. For example, in science, the justification for using contraceptives is to control birth and enable couples to live comfortably. In ethics, it is wrong to use contraceptives among Catholics as they believe that God commanded man to multiply thus the man should do just that and not otherwise.


In both scientific and ethic knowledge claim, there is the contributing factor of perception.
