The goal of the presentation: Electronic Health Records (EHR) in healthcare
The goal of this presentation is to provide information about electronic health records and their use in healthcare settings. The lecture gave me excellent insights into electronic health records, their historical evolution over time, and their use in healthcare to ensure patients' health records are rapidly examined from a central point. The paper gave a historical backdrop of electronic health records as well as recent advances, allowing the audience to become acquainted with the subject at hand.
The purposes of electronic health records
The information presented about the purposes of electronic records is consistent with theory. It is widely accepted that health organizations are moving to electronic health records to reduce the cases of medical errors and wrong drug prescription, thereby increasing patients' safety (King, Patel, Jamoom & Furukawa, 2014). Also, EHR ensures the physicians can easily access patients' information from different locations.
Lack of proper citation
The author, however, failed to provide a proper citation for the borrowed ideas. For instance, the author mentions that "studies like the one above have shown an increase in patients..." without citing the name of the study or the researcher.
Issues with visual aids and slide design
However, the visual aids were not correctly used in the presentation. The slides lack animations, and the fonts are too small making it difficult to read. The design of the slides was poorly done. There was a general flow in the idea in the paper. However, some sub-topics needed additional information. Moreover, Gellert, Ramirez & Webster (2015) argues that the presentation slides can be improved by adding animations, using different themes, and increasing font.
Privacy and confidentiality concerns
According to Fernández-Alemán, Señor, Lozoya, & Toval (2013), one of the threats of EHR are privacy and confidentiality of information. My questions are; with the recent cyber-attacks, how are health organizations prepared to protect the patients' information that is stored in EHR? How do organizations respond to patients who do not want to give sensitive information due to confidentiality concerns?
