The Main Idea Behind the Work of Art
The main idea behind this work of art was to highlight how ordinary issues that individuals encounter, like death, may be overcome by their yearning for immortality, which is seen in the young child's eyes. My work's main objective was to concentrate on the human environment, which is often delicate. By examining how fragile life can be and how the state of birth and death can be similar in both their vulnerability and fragility, this body of work came up to encompass many thoughts and feelings and, as such, can be interpreted differently by both the maker and the viewer. The themes of death and birth are interwoven through my work with the painting and the child facing ahead showing a sense of hope of better things to come however hard the situation. Therefore, this artifact purposefully highlights such realities of life by the use of a painting that with different variations of colors and consists of a crawling child who evidently is depicted as getting away from something.
Audience and Effects of Specific Dimensions/Elements
When an artist comes up with a piece of art, there are many things that they regard, and this entails knowing their specific audience. However, this piece of artwork has no target audience but can be important to those who have never viewed such kind of art before. Different audiences can react differently to this artwork, but most will be awed once they comprehend the meaning behind the artwork. Further, the art will make the audience realize the concept of living, despite the fear of death. Clearly, the small child has tried to show the desire to keep moving and to live despite the adversities that are in their surroundings. The background pink and purple colors encapsulate the transient motions in life with the bright colors adding to the warmth of the painting. The variations in colors can make the audience come up with many interpretations regarding the art. For example, the painting depicts the small child crawling through a tunnel in a way that seems like she is not aware of all the things that are surrounding her.
In another instance, the viewer can conclude that the child is surrounded by turbulent times as depicted by the whirling mixture of purple and pink colors which in most cases people associate with death. Very often, human beings are blind to the realities of loss and grief until they are confronted head on, and this can be in the form of the death of a loved one or an acquaintance. On the other hand, the small child surrounded by a variation of colors, the child is all alone in the tunnel, and the fact that she keeps moving portrays the array of hope and the desire for immortality. The positioning of the child at the center of the artwork attracts the viewer attention as in most cases, the heart of the page is the most efficient center of attention and, thus, has the point of greatest attraction. The curved surfaces offer a sense of security and act as a protection to the child from the outside world.
For example, the tunnel that the small child is passing through is made up of a curved surface, and though the child cannot fathom the surroundings, the viewers can manage to conclude that she is no longer in danger. Further, this artwork consists of different shapes merged to form a three-dimensional painting. Without a doubt, the shift of colors and lines gives rise to the picture. In the piece of art, the source of light is not visible. However, the light source is centrally placed and at the background to give a precise illumination to the small child as they crawl. The use of different colors also creates unity and variety. The use of warm colors in the drawing such as purple and pink colors and one solid-colored background creates unity in the artwork. Nonetheless, the difference in colors from the warm purple colors to the cool pink colors creates variety. It is imperative to realize that the use of the crawling child piece of artwork has created flaws. For example, in the three-dimensional art of the small child crawling, I would come up with background colors that do not correspond to the painting of the crawling child. Coming up with a different background would add to the variety and unity between the small crawling child and the tunnel.
Response to Daytripper
In all the Daytripper issues, all the protagonists meet death through accidents, murder, natural deaths, and sickness. Bras, who is the main protagonist, lives a carefree life with his family, and though he is a writer in an obituary column, he cannot understand the nature of death as it comes abruptly. In one instance, he died while on the way to celebrate his birthday with his family. The artwork depicts such a case in a person’s life by indicating life through the small child crawling through the tunnel and the concept of death as the background. The artwork succinctly espouses the terror management theory as the eyes of the small child highlights the desire to live. Without a doubt to feel meaningful is to feel immortal.
