The Actions of Activists for Gun Rights and Gun Control
The actions of two groups—activists for gun rights and those for gun control—are used to characterize gun politics in the United States (US). These groups have been noted to disagree on the interpretation of court rulings and gun-related legislation, as well as the effects of gun control on crime and public safety. Critics estimate that 350 million civilians in the US own firearms, with at least 45 percent of families having a firearm. According to a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are insufficient regulations to ensure the enforcement of the gun control prevention strategies. Similarly, a survey by the national academy of science arrived at almost a similar conclusion. As a result, the Assault Weapons Ban expired in September 2004 due to sunset provisions. Moreover, efforts to renew this ban by the gun control advocate failed as did the attempts become defunct.

In the article, he critically reviews and addresses four assumptions, which underlies the different US political and well-known connections between mental illness and gun violence. These assumptions include: a psychiatric diagnosis can predict a gun crime. Mental illness causes gun violence. Gun control cannot prevent or regulate gun crimes, and that dangerous loner should be watched out. The article critically analysis these associations in an exhaustive way. Moreover, Metzl uses examples from the contemporary life and give recommendations thereby making his article helpful in understanding the clinical implication of gun violence and the attributing factors.

The article by Vernick, Alcorn, and Horwitz analyzes and research on the laws that necessitate for a background check of any gun buyer. Also, Vernick et al. identify the limitation in which the United States (US) Congress faces in its attempts to enact new laws on gun possession. The article similarly outlines the requirements that one must meet while applying for a firearm possession such as any criminal record. For instance, a person cannot own a gun if it can pose threats to his or her life or cause any casualties. Moreover, the article research was limited to a few States and thereby creating biases. However, the article was helpful to this study. Furthermore, the report shows that the states are the primary engine for impacting firearm policy.

The author also addresses issues on the Constitution of Florida and the fundamental rights along with the judicial determinations and Uniform probate code in the courts of Florida. Similarly, the article examines the legal and civil rights along with a judicial standard review in various cases. This article is very informative and thus beneficial to this course. The author states that the right to own a firearm should be removed immediately by a court order upon the determination that one is incapable or may cause casualties. In summary, it states that Florida uses police power in amending the statutes of guardianship of the States, which fail to recognize the fundamental right of owning a firearm.

According to Obeng and Bowman, the fatalities related to gun crimes for children as stated in the mass media needs priority. The authors' aimed at outlining the parental view on gun violence. Also, the article purposed at analyzing whether or not, gun safety education ought to be provided in academic institutions. Their analysis and the case studies involved makes this article paramount to this course. Furthermore, their deduction from the research bolstered the idea of the police, the military, and the safety personnel teaching gun safety to children. However, some parents were not in favor of this education.

The article by Gregory Orfalea—an acclaimed author of the Junipero Serra biography—provides a case study on a shoot-out in which the shooter injured several individuals before killing himself at the ballpark where the congressmen played. The article also examines the factors that need consideration in the legislation of firearms. The author laments how it is easier to access and secure a gun. The analysis is very educational as well as helpful as it examines various cases of crimes associated with gun violence. Similarly, as the article thesis statement, the author emphasizes the need to get serious about gun control.
