“How the Oppressed Struggle' Embodying the Abuse Continuum,” the fourth chapter of Seth Holmes' novel “Fresh Produce, Fractured Bodies: Migrant Farmworkers in the United States.” The chapter outlines the ethnic-based misery that the poor face in the United States when they are discriminated against in a variety of industries, with a special focus on those who work on agricultural plantations. According to reports, Triqui migrant laborers face financial and psychological problems when crossing the Mexico-US border and end up living in deplorable circumstances that subject them to physical harm. Other levels of suffering are described in the perspective of the health outcomes and violence that the population faces.
From the reading, I agree that among the great challenges that immigrants face in the US is poor living conditions that they are subjected to due to their status as settlers. It is particularly a challenge to cross the US-Mexico border because of the deportations and the supposed wall that is to be erected to separate the two nations. It is apparent that many ethnicities today still experience the challenges that the Triqui immigrants reported facing in the US. The inferences that are drawn from the book chapter are that the poor remain a vulnerable group not only in the US but in other parts of the world as well. It underscores the fact that violence is a trend among such oppressed groups as the Truqui were identified to be a cruel group. Overall, therefore, the author intended to inform the reader about the importance of social issues in determining crime and economic status of the population. It is thus recommended for policy-makers who plan to manage the occurrence of criminality, for example, to consider reducing the disparities and discrimination of the ethnic minorities.
