Facial symmetry is a scientific aspect used in gauging conventional attractiveness. Usually, this is measured by maneuvering an original picture of an individual into a perfect symmetric form of their faces, as it is clear that all human beings are at least somehow asymmetric. It is true that symmetric faces are attractive as compared to asymmetric ones. For instance, if you manipulate the symmetry of face photos on complex computer graphic methods and later on assess the effects of the manipulation, one would realize the attractiveness of the faces. In the research different subjects were provided with manufactured, symmetric face images together with the original copy. They are then asked to choose between the two versions. Most individuals selected the symmetric version, concluding that symmetric faces are more attractive. It is further supported by the theory of perceptual bias which states that symmetric faces are appealing as the human eye can efficiently process any symmetric stimuli as compared to the asymmetric stimuli.
The effect of masculinity-femininity on face preferences
Masculinity and femininity are dimensions which draws attention on the degree at which the society stress achievement. Masculinity is a trait that gives priority to being ambitious, acquiring more wealth, and other differentiated gender duties. On the other hand, femininity is a trait which considers caring behaviors, sexual equality, and different fluid gender roles. It is clear that exaggerating the differing physical appearance of average faces leads to a potential increase in their attractiveness. According to the research versions of male faces were manufactured, later on, both exaggerated masculine and feminine traits were in-cooperated in the photos. The same procedure was repeated for female faces. Participants were shown the samples and asked to respond. For female faces, more preference was given to feminized faces. The participants also preferred feminized male faces. To conclude, in both female and male faces the exaggerated feminine traits are more attractive.
