Environmental Pollution

Introduction

Environmental pollution has remained one of the biggest problems and challenges facing humanity around the globe. Environmental pollution is responsible for major harmful effects on human life, human health, animal survival, and natural ecosystems survival. Over the past few years, many countries have been trying their best to tackle the problem of pollution but these countries are still facing the same environmental problems like air, sound, and water pollution with air pollution as the most dangerous. Environmental pollution is mainly caused by human activities or a total misuse of the earth's resources and in the coming years, the earth will be in a catastrophe if these human activities causing environmental pollution are not stopped. Keeping the environment clean requires a great deal because it provides a better atmosphere for people and the earth's plants and animals. Environmental pollution is a global problem that can be fixed by governments enacting stern laws that persecute individuals found polluting the environment, public awareness on environmental pollution and its effects, and encouraging business owners, company owners, individuals, and societies to use environmentally friendly products.

Causes of Environmental Pollution

Environmental pollution is a serious global issue that is caused by a number of factors. First, it is caused by human activities such as individuals burning fossil fuels and other unsustainable forms of energy to get home energy. It is also caused by pollution from the transportation sector. According to Hoang, Chu, and Van Tran "One of the main pollution sources are the exhaust gas from the internal combustion engines, which provide up to 80% of the total consumed energy in the world" (251). Pollution from vehicles, cars, and truck is a major cause of environmental pollution around the world. Cars emit carbon dioxide in the air and since humans are so good at cutting trees, this has exacerbated the problem because there is no natural defense thus the carbon dioxide causes environmental pollution. In addition, environmental pollution is caused by manufacturing industries whereby there is the emission of greenhouse gas to the atmosphere causing environmental pollution. The industries use petroleum and coal as a source of energy in their production thus emitting greenhouse gases, which cause environmental pollution.

Effects of Environmental Pollution

Environmental pollution has had numerous negative effects on the environment and the human habitat. Many people tend to ignore the idea that environmental pollution such as water and air pollution can be harmful to the earth, animals, and the people because it makes people and animals sick as well as killing the earth. Air and water pollution not only threatens the life and health of humans and animals but it also causes severe damage to the environment. According to Attademo et al., "Environmental pollution is a global problem with diverse and substantial public health implications" (55). Environmental pollution can lead to serious health problems that can lead to death. Therefore, it is important for individuals and governments to work out on measures and solutions to tackle the problem of environmental pollution.

Environmental Pollution and Climate Change

Environmental pollution is a contributing factor to climate change or rather global warming as it is commonly known. Due to the emission of greenhouse gases, acid rain, and the effects on the ozone layer, which are human activities that cause environmental pollution, the world is facing global warming which is a threat to humanity and the world ecosystem. The greenhouse gases are emitted from burning fossil fuels and other unsustainable forms of energy, which are emitted to the ecosystem and later on hurt the earth and its resources (Hanjin et al. 7). The environmental impacts of environmental pollution from greenhouse gas emissions have proved calamitous to many developing and developed countries because this kind of pollution not only hurts the environment but also the human health and the other habitats on earth.

Solutions to Environmental Pollution

Managing environmental pollution is important because it will help keep the environment clean and the earth a safe place for all living things and biotic life. Landrigan, Fuller, and Horton note that "Environmental pollution is a large, costly, inequitably distributed, and preventable cause of disease and death in countries around the world" (1429). One of the solutions to environmental pollution is for the government to past stringent laws that persecute persons found polluting the environment. If all states enact laws against environmental pollution and increase penalties for those found polluting the environment, then the corporations that pollute the environment will shun from emitting dirt to the environment. Today, many irresponsible individuals and companies are generating large profits from activities that harm the environment and because of lenient laws, they cover for the fines with their large profits and others avoid paying penalties. However, with stricter and harsh laws, such individuals will cease destroying our ecosystem with their activities thus preventing environmental pollution.

Secondly, to solve the environmental pollution problem, governments should encourage individuals, business owners, company owners, and societies to use environmentally friendly products. With the use of eco-friendly products, our environment will be safe from pollution. Environmentally friendly products do not cause any harm to our ecosystem (Hoang, Chu, and Van Tran 250). However, it is sad that despite this information being in the public domain, many people still use harmful chemicals and other products that are not eco-friendly thus causing fatal pollution such as water and air pollution. A good example is farmers still using chemical fertilizers when they can make and use natural fertilizer that is eco-friendly. Therefore, is governments can focus on educating people on eco-friendly products and encouraging them to use products that do not harm the environment, then the problem of environmental pollution can be successfully prevented and solved.

In addition, the local and state governments should warn individuals from indulging in human activities that cause environmental pollution. Public awareness of environmental pollution and its effects is vital because it will help solve the problem of pollution. People should be encouraged to use sustainable energy, drive less and walk more, and companies encouraged to find eco-friendly means to dispose of their waste (Jamil et al. 484). In addition, they should also be encouraged to plant more trees as it promotes a clean and safe environment for all. The problem of environmental pollution can also be tackled by educating citizens on the hazards of littering the environment and the importance of keeping the environment clean.

Conclusion

In conclusion, environmental pollution has become a global issue that is threatening to endanger all life on the planet earth including animals, plans and even the non-living like the biotic life. It has grown in magnitude and it is time for governments to realize the problem is serious and needs to be addressed with the urgency it deserves. It is hoped that with the government encouraging people to utilize eco-friendly products and avoid human activities causing environmental pollution in addition to imposing stricter laws and regulations on environmental degradation activities, the problem of environmental pollution can be solved. In essence, environmental pollution problem encompasses both the human population's well-being as well as the ecosystem. Therefore, a collective approach to solving this menace is obligatory and imperative.
