According to McNamara in his essay titled "How to Delegate Employees," published on the Free Management Library website, delegation of work is designating some portion of the supervisor's duties for a subordinate employee. Delegation authority gives junior staff members the freedom to choose the best course of action for achieving the organization's objectives. The supervisor can then focus on other crucial issues and just serve as a resource for the less experienced employees. The supervisor also has the right to periodically evaluate the junior staff's level of effort and commend them for a job well done (McNamara, 2016). The director remains responsible for the task to be done even though he assigns someone else to achieve it.
Statement of the Problem
The problem of delegating work to junior employees affects the home-based makeup business which I run. Giving one person responsibility to carry out a task means having confidence in the abilities of others other than yourself. Delegating tasks is the problem facing my company and solving this would mean that I could save time which I need to develop my leadership skills further (Rice, 2013). These skills come in handy when solving problems and attaining organizational goals.
Recommendation
Delegated work should be given to one person. If one makeup artist can do manicure, then all the manicure clients will be handled by him. The result of this is the heightened motivation of the makeup artist to do the task given and achieve the desired results. Since people have different abilities, selecting the right person to delegate which particular tasks to be carried out is important. Specialization of skills usually arises from this. Clearly stating the preferred results and expecting a feedback of the same from the junior employee makes sure that they are clear on should be done. Finally evaluating the reward of the person’s performance based on the desired results can be done and this will increase the efficiency and service delivery of the makeup business (McNamara, 2016).
