Contemporary aridity picture by Cindy Sherman

The Works of Art by Cindy Sherman

The works of art by Cindy Sherman leave a lasting impression on the audience. It is possible to examine the image titled "modern aridity" based on societal relationships.

The Columns

Three columns are shown in the image. A stunning woman is smiling in the left column, and an attractive male is in the right column (Wosk 64). They are divided by a dry land in the center by the image of another woman.

Exploring Various Topics

Cindy attempted to explain various topics in the artwork that are obscure and open to criticism (Wosk 65). Some of the artworks include a hidden message, therefore evaluating them requires critical thought.

Cindy's Artistic Works as a Contemporary Teaching

Cindy's artistic works are a contemporary teaching of any given society. The word contemporary means things were happening at the same time whereas aridity means a dry climate. Artwork can be thought of depicting two people in the relationship. This piece of work will critique Cindy’s artwork in Contemporary aridity.

The Frame and Impressive Thoughts

The artist chose the frame as the picture has a ground portrait which can only fit in three columns. The artwork is impressive as it brings different thoughts in the mind of a viewer. The picture was created from contemporary society (Robinson 73).

The Thoughts and Symbolism

The people in the art that are the man and the lady on the right side can be thought to be in a relationship precisely at the stage of courtship. The two are portrayed posing a smile which is evident in two birds in early love stages. The lady has pampered herself beautifully, and it seems she is ready to proceed to the next step of life. Marriage is like a ship which has no direction in the ocean. According to the picture, the arid place in between the two columns represents the thoughts of these two partners (Robinson 75). The winds resemble their ideas in the desert which have no direction. The two birds are in eagerness and anxiety of meeting each other. Also in the middle of the desert is an image which is not clear to whom it possesses. The image symbolizes that the two lovebirds are always thinking about each other.

The Candid Documentary Photograph

The photo is a candid documentary photograph as it can be seen. The artistic work seems to have had thoughts of documenting this type of work for a film.

The Processing of the Photo

The processing of the photo involved several steps. The screen involved in the printing of artwork is the porous film which allows light to flow through it. A light paint which is sensitive is again applied to the skin, given time to dry in a dark room (Robinson 76). After the drying process, a transparent material containing the artwork is placed on the screen and exposed. The last step should be done in a well-lit room for the quick drying effect.

The Choice of Color

The choice of color in the picture was excellent. The color mixture brings a superb view where one does not struggle given the photo. The contrast used in the artwork is a mid-one where the color particles do not fade but are kept in their authentic nature (Wosk 67). The color choice of the artist's work also assisted in keeping the picture genuine and real.

Art as a Cheap Way of Conveying a Message

In the modern world, photo manipulation is one of the most creative forms of art that is used to convey information. It is a technique which has seen itself advance in this contemporary society. The modern art is derived from the old generation whereby it is done in more advanced technologies (Wosk 68). Art is considered to be the cheapest way of conveying a message as it requires only the available raw materials such as paper and paint.

The Depiction of Two Women

The picture depicts two women whereby the one on the right is beautiful and looks like she is wealthy. On the other hand, it can be seen that the woman is filthy and ugly and seems to come from a poor background. The two women come from very different backgrounds which have varying financial strengths, for instance.

Equality in Death

In between the two images, there is an image of a woman on the ground (Wosk 64). It depicts that the woman belongs to the field and the face is neither ugly nor beautiful, and probably the woman is dead and buried in the underground. From the three pictures, it can be seen that death is meant for everyone. It does not matter whether you are rich or poor, beautiful or ugly. The figure shows that the dirty and nasty woman will die as well as the lovely and clean will still eventually die. All people will die one day and be buried in the ground and forgotten. It is evident that death does not choose or favor anyone on account of beauty, riches, or class (Wosk 66).

Love and Peaceful Coexistence

When alive on earth do not boast and show pride. Live with people peacefully and do not look down on one another since one day you will die, and you will be buried regardless of your social status as depicted in the picture. Then, the picture shows that all people on earth are equal before the eyes of God and that they should love each other. Hate should not dominate in the lives of people, and they should learn to cohabit with each other peacefully.
