Comparison of Human Rights in Sweden and Hungary

Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a document that was drafted by representatives of different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world in Paris on 10 December 1948. It stipulates that fundamental human rights are universal. Hence, they should be protected and respected. The document further clarifies that human rights are inherent to all human beings, regardless of sex, race, nationality, religion, and language.

In regard to chapter 22, every member of the society is entitled to social security by the government. Social security encompasses disability benefits, retirement benefits, survivor benefits, supplemental security income benefit, hospital insurance benefit and home for homeless benefit.

There’s a huge gap between Sweden and Hungary when it comes to social security. Citizens of Sweden enjoy a variety of benefits compared to those of Sweden. Homeless in Sweden is defined as living in a house that is not spacious and enough for the family. Sweden has a couple of systems that enables them to deal with the epidemic. They have Kommuns which is a collaboration of cities, towns, and municipalities. The group through their kommunens socialtjanst helps families with underage children with

an apartment or takes children from their parents and sends them to children's home. On theother hand the Sweden government has policies that curb the menace.

As a matter of fact, homelessness in Hungary is the order of the day. Most citizens have got no space to live. This forces them to live in public spaces. This is due to poor housing legislation in Hungary. Social housing in Hungary is so expensive, alluding to the fact 40 percent of the population lives less than a dollar in a day. Also systems in Hungary are for the rich. Any legislation made be it that of housing it have leniency towards the rich.

Article 24 states that all human rights are entitled to right to work, free choice of employment, favorable working environment and protection against environment. Also the article illustrates that children should be exempted from any form of work and women should receive equal pay to men. Pension should be provided and disabled should be accorded their necessities.

Sweden has a great and vast social care system. Every retiree is entitled to superior pension that will sustain them in their day to day issues. In Hungary pension is not enough for the retirees. This is due to the fact corrupt cartels that run the pension system. It’s found that cartels exclude the rich and powerful individuals from paying tax and monthly pension scheme payments. This makes make the scheme to have less fund for many retirees.

Sweden regards the disabled to be important members of the society. There are enough social amenities for them. Structures and offices build all over in Sweden incorporate disabled needs. Disabled are employed in every sector if they have the ability and capacity. It’s absolutely contrast to what happens in Hungary. No free access to wheelchairs like in Sweden. Disabled are found to be struggling for movement without wheelchairs. Many government offices don’t have sound proof materials. These affect

the deaf. Rarely would you find a disabled person working in Hungary.

Mostly when goes into a maternity leave Hungary it’s regarded as a sack by many. Employers hardly wait for them instead they hire replacements. Sweden doesn’t have stressful working hours whereas Hungary has and pays peanuts.

Article 25 is purely states every human being has a right to standard of living. For quality standard of living to be achieved there should be minimum wage for workers. Sweden does best in this; minimum wage for a worker in Sweden is 22,000 after taxes. Sweden laws allow workers to join independent unions to bargain wages collectively and also prohibits discrimination against workers. Minimum wages does not exist in Hungary. There is no law that enshrines it. This leaves space for employers to determine

by themselves what to pay employees. This loophole gives mandate to corrupt entrepreneurs to exploit employees properly. Trade unions rarely exists in Hungary, this is due to victimization of workers that joins them.

In conclusion Western Europe upholds human rights compared to Eastern Europe. This is due to culture and economy. Western Europe has been having stable political stability. Hence, enabling progression in any form of human rights. Eastern Europe has been facing much of political turmoil for a long time. This makes implementation of human rights difficult.
