Argument and Counterargument

When we pay close attention, we can separate God's existence from His essence in the same way that triangles can be separated from their angles to make two right angles. The concept of God's existence is analogous to the concept of a mountain and a valley. It is as absurd to believe that God, the absolutely flawless creature, does not exist as it is to believe that a mountain does not have a valley. Based on our thoughts, there is always a valley where there is a mountain. Similarly to the manner in which people conclude that where there is a mountain, there must be a valley, the very thought of the existence of an all-perfect being led to a thought of the existence of God. The mind cannot engage in thoughts of non-existent objects or be when they do not exist. There has to be something that initiates and controls such inner thoughts. From the point an individual gets to question how everything came to exist, their thoughts go to the point of an existence of a supreme being that started it all.

The notion of the existence of God emanates from the argument that something supreme and supernatural must have caused the existence of the universe plus all the creations of the mountains and valleys, the seas and oceans and the human, plants, and animals. Everything to exist today must have been a source of creation that brought everything into existence. That would require one with the ability to initiate the processes. Just as one can destroy a triangle and create the right angles, but the triangle cannot create the individual. God initiated the creative process as the Supreme Being and man or the objects created cannot reverse the process and create God. For the existence of an object or being, some first cause, which in itself is uncaused since it is the initiator of the process. Such a position requires perfection and supernatural abilities that inform the existence of God. In relation to the first cause also comes the process of the perfect design of everything that exists in the universe. The essence of the existence of God indicates the essence of the perfect design of the universe. Something or someone had to get involved in the designing and modeling the universe to turn out perfectly. The notion of perfection in the design of the universe and all the creation that exists in it creates the notion of the existence of the supreme and perfect God as the sole creator of the Universe and everything in it.

In contrast, the development and the existence of God as the imagination cannot provide a logical argument for the existence of God. The mind can think of anything and make us believe in our thoughts. The existence of God is a creation of the first philosopher based on the name provided and the use repeatedly until it stuck in the minds of people from generation to generation. I believe if the first philosophers provided another name apart from "God" then today, people would be talking about the existence of a supreme being with another name altogether. Therefore, the existence of God came as a creation of the imaginations of the first philosophers who thought of the existence of Supreme Being and designed a name for it as God. Furthermore, various philosophical differences today have led to the development of different "gods" across the world with different names depending on regions, beliefs and so on. The philosophical differences call for a deeper focus on the concept of the existence of God, which leads to new developments every time.

Furthermore, the argument based on the notion of first cause and the design of the universe does not add up since, for the existence of something there must be a source of creation or an initiator of the process at some point. Therefore, if God created and designed the universe, then it will be logical to argue that another supreme being created and designed God and the chain of creation will go on and on backward and nonstop. Nothing can just come to exist without a given source thereby bringing into question the existence of God as the Supreme Being. Therefore, if everything that claims or is claimed to be existing need a cause, then even something more powerful caused the existence of God. However, even from the counter-arguments, it shows that existence comes from a cause. Hence, there must be a common source for the existence of everything. The common source must not necessarily be the existence of God, but this shows the existence and essence of a supreme and perfect source of everything. Everything that exists today must have been caused, but no theory or philosophical arguments define existence completely.
