I am conducting an acute care analysis for hospitals in Virginia and elsewhere for the total knee replacement surgery procedure that must be completed within the next few months. Acute care facilities are often defined as a link through patient sharing and network building, which includes the extension of immediate networks to long-term care services (Lee et al. 2011).
Because nurses play a crucial role in acute care facilities (Clarke and Donaldson, n.d.), I opted to evaluate publicly available data for selecting hospitals based on ratings and visited hospital websites for more information about knee replacement surgeries, physicians, nursing staff, and their services.
After doing some internet research, I have selected the Duke Health in North Carolina and Virginia Hospital Center in Virginia. These hospitals were slecetd on the evaluation based on home page highlights and the ratings and reviews. After visiting the homepage of Duke Health, the tagline of the hospital stated it has been ranked the best hospital in the nation as per U.S news and World Report. It is a multispeciality, high equipment care center with highly qualified staff (Duke Health, 2017).
The homepage provides a direct link to the Doctor, treatment, and list of specilaities including the orthopaedic care. There was no specific link for finding a nursing practitions or any details on the home age. Since nurses have been playing an iportant role in the health care systems in an acute care facilities, thereofore, I searched on the provided search column regarding the nurisng practionioners in order to find the details relevant to the staff, behaviour, services, and reviews. I reached the required page in around 3-4 clicks to find the exact detail I have been looking. Individula nurisg practioner has its own profile page descibing the career, trianing, focus, ratings, and reviews (Duke Health, 2017).
The homepage of Virgnia Hospita Center included the news about becoming the member of the Mayo Clinic Network and “For the fourth year in a row, Virginia Hospital Center was named a Top Hospital for Patient Experience by Healthgrades, a leading online resource for information about hospitals and physicians”, “The Leapfrog Group today designated Virginia Hospital Center a “Straight A” hospital for earning a Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade of A for nine consecutive grading periods since 2012.” I searched in the provided search box for nursing practioner and reached in 3-4 clicks on the required page to learn the specifications (Virginia Hospital Center, 2017).
As per the ratings of Duke University Hospital has ranked 15 in orthopedics with an overall score of 63.2 on a scale of 100 (U.S. News, N.d.) where Virginia Hospital has been given a straight A ranking with an “Exceptional patient satisfaction - 95.5% of orthopedic patients rate a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10; 95.8% would recommend the Hospital to family and friends” (Virginia Hospital Center, 2017).
Although both the hospitals have been good as per the evaluation based on the reviews and ratings, however, I would prefer Virginia Hospital Center because of its exceptional patient satisfaction rate in orthopedics, rendering it as a more reliable option of the full knee replacement treatment.
