As a counselor, there are many documented cases of people struggling with homeless instabilities in the world. Therefore, with my background as a counselor, I can advise Liz Murray to take the following steps.
Primary Health Care. Assisting Liz would entail recommending to Liz to visit a primary care doctor. That would be vital because a majority of the people who are homeless or at risk of contracting a viral disease such as Liz was from her parents who had AIDS. Furthermore, Liz has not had a recent physical examination after she moved in with her mother right from leaving the care system that her parents took her.
Psychiatric services. Liz might benefit from the therapeutic effects of psychotropic medications. Her previous situation of living with parents who are drug addicts as well as living with AIDS may have been traumatized her. Therefore, getting therapeutic assistance would significantly help her.
Emergency Shelter. Contacting the community help organization to provide Liz with temporary shelter before finding a lasting solution to her homelessness woes would be top the priorities.
Public Benefits. Considering the kind of work that Liz was doing to fend for herself and at the same time go school, its right to deduce that she must have led impoverished life. Thus, it would be appropriate to assist her to enroll in the public befits schemes such as the state-based health insurance.
When the System Failed Her in the Movie
The system, in this case, is her parents. Her father and mother- Jean Murray failed Liz engaged in drugs to the extent that they became drug addicts at the expense of taking care of the family. Furthermore, the use of needles to inject drugs into their bodies exposed them AIDS that later comes to incapacitate them. The local authorities also failed Liz because they did nothing when her grandfather was sexually abusing their mother and aunt.
