The Social and Aesthetic Value of Domingo's Painting

According to the painting of Domingo of 1960, a group of white racists is seen assembled in front of a school protesting against integration. The painting is focused on the American society social ills, inequality and aspects of racism that was experienced in the 1960s. The Domingo’s painting depicts the social value in America. To start with, the painting illustrates the inequality done by the whites to the Hispanic Americans and black Americans. The whites did not even want the non-whites to take their children to schools that was regarded to whites’. The painting also depicts racism experienced by the Hispanic Americans enforced by the whites. These are the social injustices experienced by the two groups at that time. It is valued by the society because it shows the injustices that happened in past which have paved way to address the injustices.

There are numerous ways of judging the aesthetic and social value of art. Firstly, the beauty in the art must be considered. The beauty in art is attributed by the visual and physical texture, colors that complement each other, crops and composition that focus the eye and many more. Secondly, the skill and technique is used. The technical skill is the measurable and comparable art aspect. This can be reached by comparing the work with others, looking the artist work on the display to see if they are consistent (Austin, p.34). Thirdly, the inherent meaning of the art is another factor used to judge the art. Art has been regarded as powerful because it causes emotion, challenge preconceived ideas and make political statements. Furthermore, the piece of art should also be unique. This aspect not only correspond to what the artist is depicting but also how the artist is depicting it. The other factor utilized in the judgment of an artwork is the fulfilled intent. This relate to the exactness of the subject the artist want to portray as well as proper expression of emotion.
