Rhetoric and its Influence
Rhetoric refers to the art of discourse where a speaker or reader strives to motivate, persuade, or inform the particular audience in a specific situation. Typically, this provides heuristics for discovering, developing, and understanding arguments with the help of the five canons; delivery, memory, style, arrangement, and invention. Through memory, delivery, and style, rhetoric has influenced my knowledge of law enforcement, time management, and ethnic foods.
Influence on Knowledge of Law Enforcement
While growing up, I witnessed numerous altercations between the police and the locals and in a few of that, the residents were not in the wrong. As a result, I had to research and read about law enforcement. With the help of rhetoric, I have been in a position to recall all the facts and arguments related to various law enforcement cases. Apart from allowing me to memorize and recall some of the key concepts of law enforcement, memory has ensured that I have a wide body of knowledge to refute opposing arguments, respond to questions, and permit improvisation.
Influence on Knowledge of Time Management
While in high school I attended a few seminars on time management which had different speakers. In all of the seminars I attended, only one of them hosted by Dr. Heinrich Anderson helped grasp the full concept of time management. Therefore, Anderson utilized delivery to the fullest by incorporating both gestures and voice in the seminar. He also had the appropriate modulation of the voice, the emphasis of speech, pace, and phrasing. The application of effective delivery by Anderson enhanced his persuasive power influencing my knowledge of time management.
Influence on Knowledge of Ethnic Foods
Lastly, as an individual who enjoys traveling, both within my country and outside it and trying out new things, rhetoric has influenced my knowledge of ethnic foods. Every time visiting a new place, one of my objectives is to try out food made by the natives and if the opportunity presents itself, watch the process of preparing the dish. Through style, rhetoric has influenced my knowledge of ethnic products since currently, I know the artful pattern of preparing some ethnic foods such as the Mexican popular machaca and the Italian risotto dishes.
