The Impact of Transport Pollution
The video of Transport Pollution directed by Marilyn Higgins is a wake-up call to stop transport pollution and gives insight on some of the actions that have been taken by various concerned parties in combating air pollution. Transport plays an essential role in daily life. It has enabled people and properties to move from one place to the other. However, society's dependence on the automobile has contributed to pollution as explained in the short video. Global warming is one of the significant challenges that the world currently faces that should be dealt with accordingly. In the recent past, there have been increases in respiratory diseases and lung damage that is directly linked to air pollution. Road transport contributes to emissions of hydrocarbons, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and metals which are high in cities with busy traffic (Global SciTech, 2018). The gases are harmful to the human body and other worrisome facts that are caused by transport pollution. The high level of transport pollution has also contributed to public health concerns. Fresh air is vital for life, but automobile transportation has polluted the air exposing millions of people to diseases such as cancer which can be fatal.
Technological Measures to Control Transport Pollution
Most of the automobile companies are working on environmentally friendly concepts to save the environment. The video offers some of the technological measures that have been taken by various countries and companies to control transport pollution. Higgins explains that transport-induced pollution can be controlled through the use of an electric car that is used in Columbia which will reduce the release of toxic gas. Improving automobile technology is vital in controlling technology (2018). The existence of rechargeable Vectrix Super-scooters that do not use fuel that can pollute the environment (Global SciTech, 2018). Hybrid buses that use a partial electric propulsion system thus reducing the quantity of gas produced in the environment because it uses less of the combustion engine. Use of cooking oil instead of diesel may also be a new technology that will help in controlling pollution (Global SciTech, 2018). The introduction of biofuel may play a significant role in reducing air pollution because of the low-level production of dangerous gases which pollute the environment.
