Bullying and Its Impact on Self-Esteem
Bullying is one of the issues that affect the self-esteem of people. In every context, there are those persons that are considered vulnerable. As such, those who have authority tend to intimidate those that are perceived weak. In most cases, people focus on the issue of those people that are bullied, but in this essay, the focus is on the bullies too. Bullying is a concern that requires sensitization in the community as it can lead to cases such as school dropouts.
The Effects of Bullying on Children
Bullying affects children. When a child is bullied, he or she will develop fear towards that environment. Shetgiri, Lin, and Flores indicate that people tend to shift the blame to the environment rather than the bullies (99). In a school context, the bullied child will feel that the teachers cannot protect them and as such, they end up hating the school environment. However, the significant aspect is for the stakeholders to look at ways through which they help the bullied to protect themselves. Teachers and parents should talk to their children for them to understand if there is any case of bullying (Vaughn et al. 187). It is essential to understand that when the bullied children decide to confront the bullies, this could create significant conflicts as witnessed in gun shootings (Tenenbaum et al. 273). When the bullied share their experiences, the stakeholders get to understand ways that they can seek help.
The Importance of Addressing Bullying
Bullying is an activity that should not be ignored. The society needs to understand that this bullying leads to school dropout. As such, it is significant for teachers to demonstrate to the vulnerable on approaches to sustaining the threats that bullies pose. Confrontational approaches are not ideal for solving bullying in schools.
