The board meeting
The board meeting took place on 6th November 7, 2018. The Superintendent made a presentation on two issues. First, security in the schools, he briefed the members of the board and the other parties in attendance of the meeting on the various security measures and efforts that are needed to achieve an upgrade in the security levels. Second, there is poor communication between the student and the various offices handling their issues. In his presentations, the superintendent proposed the formation of Superintendent’s Students Voice council and the Superintendent Teachers Advisory council. The two groups will be meeting with the superintendent to discuss appropriate direction for the schools.
Persuasion methods used and tactical choices
The superintendent used friendly persuasion methods to make his presentation. First, he used an appeal to reason; he tried to critically reason with his audience by providing a reason for his approach and backing them up with valid explanations. Furthermore, he chose a friendly approach in his presentations to try and explain the essence of adopting the measure to improve security and quality of education (Jansson, 2018). The friendly approach gave him more leverage to make his presentation effectively. He also applied tactical choices like the use of social proof and commitment whereby he also provided an action plan.
Methods/tactics effectiveness and what I have done differently
A friendly approach to persuasion enables the speaker to gain the attention and confidence from the public. It allows the audience to have an open-minded perception and attitude towards the speaker’s presentation (Jansson, 2018). In essence, the methods and tactics enabled the superintendent to gain support from most of the stakeholders present, which were confirmed by a majority vote. If I were the speaker, I would have allowed the stakeholders to give their feedback and comments on the issues raised before concluding.
