The Growing Market for Human Organs
The market for human organs is growing very fast because of the number of organ transplants performed yearly. Also, this market is characterized by issues of illegal practices, which turns it to a black market. Because of the rising health problems such as kidney issues, the market for human organs needs to be conducted ethically and through legal processes (Cherry, 43). Because of being in desperate situations, patients intend to purchase organs illegally, therefore resulting in the widespread of a black market for human organs.
The Demand and Supply Imbalance
The demand and supply of human organs are very high based on thousands of organs sold and purchased in the contemporary world annually. There is a shortage of lawfully donated human organs like kidney, therefore leading to an imbalance between the demand and supply in the market (Cohen, 129). The demand and supply of human organs result in a gap which affects the poor mostly because they cannot manage to pay for the charges needed for an organ donation (Cherry, 65). Only a few people are willing to donate their organs, therefore leading to a significant gap between the demand and supply in the market.
The Role of the Black Market
The role of the black market in the society is to try and save the lives of patients who are not able to follow the legal process needed in acquiring the required organ, therefore their improved quality living. Because of inadequate compensation of organ donors, the black market focuses on seeing the financial restoration of the donor by supporting the sale and purchase of human organs. The black market also looks forward in reducing the shortage of organ in the market by encouraging people to donate organs at some fee (Cohen, 154). Morally, it is not necessary for people to sell their organs; however, because of the under-utilized supply of human, the present black market plays the role of encouraging people to donate organs.
