Mathew Richie is arguably one of the best contemporary artists. He doubles as an architectural engineer as well as an artist. His artistic mission has been mainly to occupy the universe with his marvellous structures through impeccable visualization of sculptures. The artist’s prospects emerged from his beliefs in Judeo- Christian cultures coupled with scientific principles. Moreover, gnostic traditions enabled him to design impressive engineering and musical structures.
Mathew Richie features in 2005 episode, Structures section, Season 3 of the Art21- art in the Twenty-First century. Richie personally states that his goal is to bring full artistic profiles in a wide spectrum. This entails intense creativity and innovation. He believes the universe is full of unknown. It is with such notion that the artist desires to bring change to the world of art through creating peculiar engineering and artistic structures. Mathew Richie is a contemporary artist whose unique work explores the visual representation of space greatly. He utilizes the painting performance and thus attempts to describe the intangible sculpture links with his thoughts. The artistic model created by Richie tries as much as possible to include all the artistic elements. This includes his choice for perfect colours, his texture and even dimensional representation of objects. Born in 1964 in London, England, he pursued his degree in Arts Camberwell College before graduating in 1986. One year later, he relocated to the United States. In New York, he did his first solo exhibition by presenting the working model at the Basilico Arts center. In modern times, the artist has collaborated with various professionals including computer scientists, architects and computer programmers. This enormous step that he has taken led to momentous architectural realizations. Some of the huge installations highly acclaimed include The Morning Line. This is one of the best sculptures that was erected outside Seville city in 2008.
The morning line is itself a substantial public art structure. It is about 16 feet tall and a whopping 65 feet long and about 17 tons of compressed aluminium foil. The structure is a clear exploration of multidisciplinary efforts. This included experts in art architecture, mathematics and cosmology. As one views the Morning line, it indeed seems to challenge the architectural conventions. The angular displacement is top notched. As I view through the video of the morning line, it is evident that the collaborators of this project designed the best artistic tool. This is a semasiographic building. Semasiographic is an architectural language aimed at wholly visually expressing its contents. The Morning Line is also a good instrument serving as a tool of contemporary music. There are hundreds ns of speakers. The sound system is impeccable (Bogue, 2014). Indeed, the morning line occupies the entire space and location.
The colour used by Richie is ideal. The artist has used the green and purple colour to convey the atmosphere and the morning mood in the city. There is a sense of complementary and of science. The reflection created by the sculpture during the morning hours tricks our eyes and brain to like it more. Richie has also mixed red and blue colour to yield an appealing secondary colour which I yellow. Also, the morning Line also capitalizes on warm colours such as yellow and red violets to bring about the effects of sun especially in the morning.
Richie also uses the element of lines in Art (Fichner-Rathus, 2012). The lines used in this particular painting are zigzag. The painting lines are visible since the displacement of the painting is skewed at a perfect angle. The colour and a regular Zigzag allow for maximum utilization of space. Moreover, the self-generating structure allows for the interactive environment. I am very interested in the Morning Line sculpture. It is amazing to figure out how a sculpture regulates itself. The programming capabilities integrated into the structure is fascinating. Indeed, the artist reconfigured the mediaeval idea of polyphony into something unique.
Indeed, Art has tremendously changed. Art is created been the tool of enjoyment for ages. The common purpose of illustration is that it has created a common visualization of language. The oldest and known function of art is a religious ritual. Also, art can be used as a coronation of major events. It aids in keeping records as historical events. The medieval paintings were mostly made of gold and silver. What made the paintings to be of great value is the nature of the material used. The main characteristic of art in modern times is a communication tool. These allow for human emotion. Modern art has got the capability of arousing moral feelings. Artists tend to express themselves through the sculptures. Art, therefore, explores the human condition. The audience is thus consciously stimulated to enjoy the artistic tools. Mathew Richie has demonstrated excellent skills in creating a perfect connection and communication with the masses.

The morning line is indeed proof that the engineer and architect are highly skilled. Indeed, art has tremendously changed since medieval ages. Mathew Richie demonstrates his creativity by coupling with his technical ability. The thought process of creating a structure such as Morning Line is not for the less creative. It requires artists and professionals to multitask. Modern models and traditional ideologies must be integrated to bring about something desirable to the eyes (Clark, 2015).

It is interesting that he has adopted complex and modern scientific principles to create multimillion and peculiar structures such as the Morning Line. Perhaps institutions should complement arts training in learning institutions with technical knowledge in subjects such as engineering and computer science. This will facilitate the creation of amazing projects and sculptures.
