A good teacher understands his or her student's strengths


A good teacher understands his or her student’s strengths and ability to maintain discipline within the school environment and to have control over the class. Classroom management involves securing the most suitable factors that can influence students to learn efficiently. My portfolio throughout the semester has allowed me to gather enough information revolving around student behaviors, peer interaction, and challenges that students with special needs face. It’s vital to maintain a given process and program in a school setting to produce quality students (product).


Teaching as a continuous learning process


Besides teaching being crucial for learners, it also presents a continuous learning process for teachers. It is essential to have a plan to efficiently innovate teaching strategies within a class when holding my lessons (Pritchard, 2013). Comparatively, it’s necessary that I understand that despite my preference of judging through knowledge, not all students have same abilities. It is vital to train myself to assess each student within the classroom jointly. Teachers must understand students’ needs for purposes of relieving them from pressure while in school. Similarly, I find it necessary to allow students to have enough time for leisure. Free-time enables them to cool down after challenging class work all day as well as reduce the excessive energy that could cause indiscipline. Also, I encourage parents to speak to their children while at home and support them to work hard and also maintain good behavior. The kind of friends that a student interacts with determines the type of behaviors they have in school. It is therefore essential to manage peer interactions both in the class and at home. This allows me as a teacher to maintain the moral stands of students by guiding those who are at risk of being corrupted. Peer editing also assists me in the creation of assessment tests and developing revision questions for students. Scholars have proved that for an assignment under classroom management to be valid, it should consider both sensing and intuitive students (Burden, 2016). When formulating questions for the sensing learners, it is essential to focus on memory recall, and straightforward question bring up an actual meaning of the lesson. It is also necessary to give room for discussions during experiences so that students can deliver their views, both in quizzes and in standard lessons.


Importance of time management


Time management is also a necessary tool. Therefore, discouraging late assignments is an essential concept to teachers. Late submitted assignments postpone the achievement of critical learning goals or the performance of critical educational tasks. Similarly, students tend to become reluctant in academic. Increased numbers of late assignments signals to the teacher that those students he or she is dealing with are not efficient in planning their schedules. The teacher’s task at this point is to develop encouraging methods, which will influence a student to come up with, programs that ensure timely completion and submission of assignments. Detentions will also assist in the improvement of discipline when handling class assignments with the aim of breaking the culture of laziness in a school environment (Pritchard, 2013). Students should, therefore, follow the rules and regulations both in the classroom and in the playground, and as a teacher; am mandated to ensure following these rules and regulations. A teacher is more of a parent in school, therefore keeping a good relationship with students is consequently vital (Davies, 1991). A student may not feel free to open up, but close observance can assist in determining whether he/she has a social problem. It is essential to encourage students to speak up about their issues and guide them on how to cope with them. Positive management of student stress will create a lively and interactive classroom (Davies, 1991).


Attention and care for students with special needs


Students with special needs need better attention and care than regular students. Therefore, a conducive environment for these students can only be achieved through creating a suitable classroom environment. Stress amongst students with special needs may result in indiscipline cases. Hence, it is crucial to ensure anger management amongst students of this kind (Burden, 2016). Correspondingly, the type of punishment and discipline enhancement, in this case, should be keenly assessed. A positive classroom environment, in this case, will ensure a supportive and protective learning environment (Burden, 2016). Additionally, it is imperative for a teacher to encourage respect amongst students to ease the task of classroom management as prefects effectively do their work. It is also important to let students choose the methods they want to learn by determining how they want me as a teacher to approach the topic (Burden, 2016). Updating of the lesson plan and teaching schemes is essential to allocate each ample task time during classroom activities (Burden, 2016).


Creating a well-rounded learning environment


Summing up, a teacher should create groups and outside projects to act as additional advantages in class activities (Davies, 1991). Learning is extensive and should not only revolve around academic performance. Therefore, life skills lesson is also essential in molding the discipline of students both outside schools and in school (Burden, 2016). I believe that every student is a performer in their fields; however, it is critical to act as an inspiration towards their future. Discipline is compulsory for a student to be an achiever despite the necessity of proper class management.
