Byun uses different aspects to bring art to play through a mixture of different patterns from Asia and Europe; there is the use of contrast as the painting presents white spaces that appear as cut out pictures on the table and characters in the wall frames. With the presentation of the seemingly cut out areas, there is emphasis that is created on the portrait to keep attracting the attention of the viewer. Also, unity is brought about through the presentation of the painting with a variety of art work on the table and wall papers. There is a repetition and rhythm in the way most of the items such as flower vases remain white as if they have been cut from the picture; they create a point of focus for the viewer as they represent the important ornamentation in the room.
The balance in Poussin’s painting, Eliezer and Rebecca is portrayed in the harmony created through the blend of cool and warm colors, blue and orange, used for the main characters; there is symmetry in the intensity of colors used and the balance in the classical elements. The provided landscape helped the characters stand out in the painting as the point of focus and also create a harmony through their almost extra-life appearance. The emphasis on the two characters is made through detachment from the others as they stand out in the front place. Also most of the other characters in the painting are shown to focus on the two characters as they pause on their work and observe; there is illusion of space used by the painter to keep the focus on the two people in the fore front.
