Leadership Styles
Leadership entails the action of leading, motivating, or inspiring a group of individuals towards accomplishing set of common goals. Generally leaders use a variety of styles when providing not only direction and implementing plans but also when motivating other individuals (Rani, Jeyakkumaran, " Reddy, 2013). Therefore, leadership styles can be termed as behavioral patterns that a leader adopts in an effort to influence the behavior of his/ her followers. Some of the common types of leadership styles include autocratic, transformational, transactional, situational, democratic, and charismatic leadership styles.
Adjustable Leadership
I strongly agree with the statement that top leaders adjust their leadership styles in order to best influence their followers. Concerning this, top leaders tend to adopt different leadership styles, thus depending on the nature and demands of a specific situation this, in, turn enables them to not only respond to new opportunities but also influence employees through inspiration and motivation to achieve specific organizational goals (Rani, Jeyakkumaran, " Reddy, 2013). In relation to this, various situations require different leadership styles, for example while autocratic leadership style benefits or rather; positively influences employees that require close supervision due to either lack of adequate knowledge or responsibility, transformational is important in influencing employees to accept organizational changes (Cherry, 2018). Therefore there exists situations where directive behavior is necessary while other situations call for supportive behavior in order to influence employees.
My Perspective on Leadership
In conclusion, the model that fits best in my perspective on leadership is the transformational leadership style. This is because I strongly believe that a leader acts as a role model of both fairness and integrity, responsible for setting organizational goals, and is primarily responsible for enhancing employee's morale and inspiring them to achieve unexpected or remarkable results. Moreover, I also believe that the leader is also responsible for not only creating organizational vision but also identifying the need for change and guiding employees during the change primarily through inspiration. Concerning this, these characteristics attributed to a leader all match up with the transformational leadership style (Yukl, 2013).
