Different Western and Eastern Power philosophies served as the foundation for the Korean War. Both the Soviet Union and the United States of America reviewed their respective objectives in Korea.
The National Security Council (NSC) of the United States produced Document 24.1 in December 1949. The US President uses the National Security Council as a forum to discuss and think through international and domestic policies. The NSC is made up of Cabinet representatives and senior security advisors/officers. In contrast to the initial strategy, which suggested an expansion of communism, the Truman administration had developed a Cold War strategy during this time that tried to fight the spread of communism. The NSC had to prepare a report to the President of the situation of the matter. The author of the report, Sidney W. Souers, was working as the DCI (Director of Central Intelligence) and was later nominated into the National Security Council, where he served as the President’s consultant on foreign affairs and the military. This report sought to create awareness to President Truman on America’s security objectives regarding Asia. Generally, these objectives aimed at observing the United Nations Charter principles and maintaining internal security among Asiatic nations. USSR’s influence had begun to threaten the security of America and its allies. Supporting non-Communist forces would help to prevent power relationships hence stabilize security among Asiatic countries. One of the national interests of the United States was national security which could only be achieved if America exerted influence over Asiatic nations (Souers, 1949).
Document 24.2 was prepared in 1950 by Terenti Shtykov through a telegram to Moscow. Shtykov sought to describe the military of Kim II-sung as well as its political agenda for Korea. During this time, Kim II-sung had earned the Soviet backing as he dominated the Korean Communist Movement. Terenti Shtykov was a leader of North Korea and served as the ‘Soviet Ambassador to North America’. Shtykov and Kim II-slung persuaded Stalin to begin the Korean War in 1950. Since Kim II-sung was a communist, it was not right for him to begin a war. For this reason, they had to convince Comrade Stalin and Mao Zedong to launch attacks. According to Shtykov, only war could liberate and unify the people of Korea. Shtykov was unhappy with Rhee Syngman's silence on instigating war. However, the war would lead Korea to political instability and affect the country’s compliance with the UN Charter principles. Creating an eastern bureau was a response to Soviet interests after they had been threatened by the Marshall Plan. Kim was not just seeking advice from Comrade Stalin, instead, he was inviting him to nurture his idea of launching an attack. Kim II-Sung was not courageous enough to face Comrade Stalin, which is why he had to be intoxicated first before he held a conversation with him (Shtykov, 1950).
The item 24.3 was created by Harry Truman on the 11th of April 1951, who talked entirely on the Korean conflict through a national radio address. Harry Truman is known to have taken the office of the president after the death of Franklin Roosevelt. Hurry served as the 33rd president of the united states of America.as the president, he played a critical role in the provision of security and prevention of the third world war. It is also important to note that, Truman was a member of the democratic party. He believed that, any individual could attain great accomplishment provided they do not care about who gets the credit. The main agenda was to warn and remind Koreans not to forget their course of action. He urged people to stick to their goals and objectives (Truman, 1951).
The item was meant to address the people of Korea. The message was aimed at warning the Koreans who seem to have forgotten their main agenda of preventing a war. Although Korea has played a critical role in preventing the war, the author gives a warning because a slight mistake might tarnish and destroy their best efforts which might result to the spread of the war they have worked so hard to prevent. The author urges the Korea people to uphold peace. The government has also contributed greatly through the Korean Republic in ensuring communist aggressors fail in destroying Korea. The author calls on all people of Korea, reminding them to stand firm and defend their territory from the communist aggressors (Truman, 1951).
The item 24.4 was written by Douglas Macarthur as a speech which was delivered just before the Congress. MacArthur was an American general who played an important role during the world's war two. He believed that old soldiers would never die but rather fade away. He was a devoted soldier dedicated to maintaining Korean security and peoples wellbeing. He believed that Truman forced a war upon him and had no option but to end it swiftly. He believed that there is no substitute for victory. His main agenda was to express his efforts in trying to save the people from suffering. He also believed that God guided him throughout his career. As a general, MacArthur worked so hard to ensure the security of the people is maintained as he united people. he, however, condemned the fact that military actions could limit them. he never believed that, militants were to suffer a great impact as the real enemies are protected by the same law. Conclusion
From the articles it is evident that the interests of the West (US) and the East (Soviet Union) are the primary components that resulted into the Korean War.
