Respondent Honesty in Surveys
Respondent honesty is an essential factor to be considered when conducting surveys, especially on sensitive matters. Honest answers are the necessary requirement for an intensive and efficient study. There are particular steps that need to be taken to ensure that the respondents provide truthful answers. One very simple but important way is to ask them to respond honestly to any questions asked. This notifies them of the importance of the study as well as their truthfulness in providing the data. Another way is the emphasizing of the confidentiality of data collected and assuring them of no breach of the confidential nature of the interaction. In cases when a group of persons is taking a survey, the best way is to restrain them from being present while they answer the questions. This will make them feel free to be as honest as possible. Additionally, the envelope to be used in handing over the survey, if present, should be similar to all of the others and unmarked to emphasize the anonymity of the process.
Juvenile Delinquency and Research
Juvenile delinquency is a critical matter in the society, given the toll it has on the youth and the community in general. This topic, therefore, deserves to be researched. A suitable research question would be "Is juvenile delinquency a product of the social failures and is punishment or rehabilitation the best way to deal with the problem?" The best research method for the study would be the use of surveys conducted on youth and older age groups. This method is effective because it provides for the chance to collect data from persons meant to be involved as it takes a short period of time and is definite on the answers received. Given that questionnaires can be handed out on a large scale and with low amounts of funds, it is a good way of working with limited resources.
