A Human Resource Manager's (HR) principal responsibility is to oversee the department's operations as well as to manage workers. As a result, the HR manager should be skilled in all disciplines such as employee development, training, remuneration, reimbursement, employee relations, selection, and staffing (Hartel & Fujimoto, 2014). As a result, the HR manager must guarantee that they are well-equipped in terms of communication skills and making important judgments based on analytical skills and processes.
Despite her busy schedule, Mrs. Mill should have made time to present Ginny with an up-to-date job description. Indicating the “miscellaneous job” in the job description would have ensured that Ginny was in a better position to accept or decline the job. This is because she would not have any reason to complain about the job as she would have known beforehand what is expected of her. However, it is not right to include “miscellaneous job” as this means that the job that Ginny applied to had two jobs in one, being the HR assistant and a relief receptionist.
Mrs. Mill should ensure that Ginny is in a position to air her sentiments with her as the HR manager. Many of times, subordinates find it hard to communicate to their superiors, and this is the reason talked to her friend about what she feels about the job. Talking to Mrs. Mill may seem like Ginny is unable to handle her job. Mrs. Mill should find time amidst her busy schedule to ask Ginny as well as other employees how they feel about their jobs. Listening to employees concerns is essential as it helps ensure that the solutions are found. Mrs. Mill should provide an open door policy where employees would be able to reach her.
In the case of Ginny, taking two jobs is draining her and takes too much of her time thus she is not able to concentrate and perform well in what she was hired to do. Mrs. Mill should motivate Ginny by maybe increasing her salaries or perhaps talk to her receptionist to observe time and tell her to reduce the chances she is taking as personal time. This will provide Ginny a peace of mind, and she would not feel like she is not doing what she studied for in school.
