How to maintain competitive advantage

In order for any business to succeed in a crowded market and outperform its rivals, it needs to have a distinct advantage over the other participants. Denning (2013), citing Professor McGrath, suggested that maintaining competitive advantage over time requires a commitment from a company, innovative thinking, and the reinforcement of many forms of strategy. One of the most popular tactics employed by company companies is market analysis, which is investigating consumer demand in order to enhance existing assets. The organization may need to be more nimble due to the unpredictable and shifting waters of competitive advantage. Innovation is required in this and once the advantage is achieved, they become sustainable.
Leadership and organizational culture help employees and the management in streamlining their innovative ideas and motivate the staffs in achieving organizational goals. Sustainable advantage can be achieved through leadership and a consistent innovation that will result in the dominance of the business over its competitors. Lack of leadership and motivation combined with employees believes that the company does not care about their welfare demotivate them which has a negative impact on their productivity. The case study clearly indicates that the employees are demotivated and lack goodwill in achieving their set goals. This can be attributed to the organization culture that concentrates more on the productivity and profitability at the expense of the employees’ welfare. Azanza, Moriano, Molero (2013) observed that servant leadership that involves leading with examples and positive organizational culture that motivates employees increases productivity. They observed that, in such organizations, employees welfare are a crucial pillar and management understands their wellbeing is a crucial factor in achieving sustainable competitive advantage.
