Ethical Egoism vs Altruism
Ethical egoism theory promotes the aspect of a person acting for their own self-interest. According to ethical egoism, each person should serve their self-interest first as no one is mandated to help others. The theory motivates people to work hard and achieve their set personal goals and desires. Ethical egoism makes a major claim that is necessary for action to be morally right to an extent that it maximizes one's self-interest. Altruism is a moral principle that claims that people need to be concerned with others people's welfare and happiness. Altruism require people to act naturally by disregarding their own concerns to come to into the aid of others without expecting a reward in return. People who are present looking tend to behave more altruistically as compared to those who are concerned about the future.
Support for Altruistic Theory
I support the altruistic theory which advocates for people serving others' interest first before theirs. One of the reasons as to why I support altruistic theory is because disregarding our own self-interest and instead helping others and sponsoring their happiness contributes to the general good, and our sense of well-being becomes greater. Altruism is vital in life as it makes people more selfless as opposed to being selfish. Important to note is that altruism encourages morally in the society by encouraging people to act ethically by impacting the life of others regardless of the outcome or consequences on their part. According to ethics, people have a moral responsibility to support and help others first instead of only focusing on their own welfare and interest. Also, altruism is of great relevance to the society as compared to ethical egoism as it motivates positive behaviour of people doing to others which brings about satisfaction and also makes one feel good about him/herself which leads one to getting respected by others.
Importance of Altruism
Altruism as opposed to ethical egoism drives people towards developing a sense of others feelings, fundamental in preventing harm to others and showing empathy. Additionally, it is through altruism that people are able to compromise, unite, and cooperate with each other. Having the interest of others at heart is crucial as it prevents one from causing harm to others.
Altruism as a Survival Skill
As stated by Darwin, species guided by altruism have a better chance to survive as they are able to fit in with others. People tend to become altruistic as they grow older as they tend to be energized by their own helpful actions and they develop a feeling that their lives matter most to others. Altruism is a fundamental aspect in bringing up children as fosters up-bringing of children in an environment that is encouraging and full of justice. With altruism the world becomes a better place as everybody feels valued.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I believe altruism is vital for the society to grow and succeed as a whole. It is through altruism that people are able to sacrifice their life for others even without a reward in exchange. As opposed to being egoistic, altruism increases a sense of other people's feelings fundamental in promoting the common good. Altruism is essential in the society as it drives people to show concern for others and put the interest of others before theirs, thereby doing acts of mercy such as donating blood, volunteering, and contributing to charity organizations.
