Respect, Fairness, Honesty, and Responsibility in Project Management


Respect, fairness, honesty, and responsibility are amongst the strategies that drive ethical measures for the project management profession, about the whole project management. In the world of project management, ethics play an important role along with the daily interactions and behavior. Ethics allow stakeholders as well as taxpayers and other individuals of a variety of opportunities to sleep at night. This is just because project management specialists are held to higher standards and restrictions when making decisions. This paper purposes at demonstrating the consideration of the PMI ethical standards in the planning processes or project initiation. It will also analyze an instance of the ethical dilemma during the project initiation (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017).


Ethics in Project Management


Ethics elevate the profession and upgrades future standards when it comes to project management. This means that something has to be done efficiently in order to bring some positive changes in the coming days. Similarly, this involves hard work and great efforts in order to make sure that everything is under excellent control. The fair decision-making process is always promoted via effective, ethical measures related to project management (JOSEPH, 2018). This includes choosing the most effective strategy from a variety of choices as far as ethics are concerned (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017). Improvement of enterprise relationship at all levels of project management is criticized by project ethical measures which help to employ all the objectives and principles together to bring a positive change at the end. Institutions and a variety of higher organizations which do not have a code of ethics regarding all the daily activities should start practicing these measures to do away with the unwanted sections (Charles, 2017).


The Ethical Dilemma: Remaining Objective


The ethical dilemma in our case is based on what is denoted as Remaining Objective'. It is evident that in every typical project that the project manager is supposed to deal with individuals and teams whose occupations are confrontational by nature. For instance, the 'development' group in a software development project whose duty is to put down a code free of errors and 'test' group whose job is to seek faults in code (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017). Project managers either unconsciously or consciously became 'biased' toward one group as opposed to the other. In addition to that instance, a project manager who has been developing software likely to be favorable towards developers as opposed to the testers. Consequently, this can lead to bad choices and enhance incalculable damage to the whole project (Schwalbe, 2015).


Professional Accountability and Objectivity


Also, it might be very easy to understand in theory although very challenging to enact in practice when aspects like long-held perceptions, personal associations, past experiences, etc. appear in the play (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017). I perceive that professional accountability based on a project manager has to adopt various aspects of not 'taking sides' in technical deliberations. The fact that one is an insider depicts that it is very challenging to regain one's objectivity. It is significant not just acting objectively but also seems so (Loo, 2002). An aspect as simple as hanging out with one team across the day-day operation can offer the impression that the manager of the project is prejudiced. This implies that it is important to observe protocol in the project manager's life. This would, therefore, enable individual incorporate fairness and honesty when dealing with the team and individuals in the project.
