Cognitive Behavioral Coaching

Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC) is one of the most influential coaching tactics that is built upon the substantial based psychological standards. The techniques, strategies, activities, and exercises applied are useful in assisting individuals to recognize and challenge their feelings and actions that are self-defeating. Negative thoughts result in negative emotions and bad emotions result in negative actions that affect the body of the victim. Most routine challenges like perfectionism, stress, loss of meaning, lack of confidence and poor communication skills typically affect an individual’s self-perception and behaviors (Reynolds et al., 2018).

The CBC aims to assist the client to gain a positive perception towards the difficulties that they encounter. To achieve this, motivational interviewing (MI) and Socratic questioning are used. The coach work with the client to uncover the reason why the client is not working to his/her full potential and try to work out the action that will be taken towards changing the situation. The coach asks questions to their client and they use the client’s feedback to develop an explanation that will help the individual to attain their anticipated life aspirations (Hicks, R. F., 2017).

Socratic questioning coupled with motivational interview change the personalities of people who think they are ineffective, or they are being miserable by letting themselves speak out of their negativities and learn the conducts that will guide them towards success. It is necessary for coaches to adopt deliberate practices in order to reach and sustain a high level of Socratic questioning (Minzlaff, K. A., 2018). Asking proper Socratic questions in vital as it encourages the client to think critically as they innovate new perceptions of solving their problems. Mastering the MI style is important to coaches for several reasons: it betters the engagement between the coach and the client and increasing the possibility that the client will adopt character changes that they need for success, good health, and self-confidence.
