Kuther and Morgan’s book Careers in Psychology: Opportunities in a Changing World and Gina Smith’s video are both useful materials, especially regarding clinical and counselling psychology. While Kuther and Morgan focus more on the foundation of the career, Smith tends to focus on a masters and PhD levels in clinical and counselling psychology. Both the speakers in the materials were interesting, and I learned a lot. For instance, I enjoyed listening to Smith as she describes the various aspects covered in the sub-career, including research methods, therapy skills, diagnostic strategies, and statistical skills ("Clinical Psychology-Gina Smith"). Consequently, the book highly enlightened me about having a good foundation in the sub-career.
Overall, I gained a lot of information regarding clinical and counseling psychology. Through the book, I am aware of the entry requirements as far as the basic knowledge necessary for the sub-career (Kuther and Morgan 34). Consequently, through the video, I am fully enlightened about the higher levels and the practice of the career. Therefore, both the book and the video were interesting and helpful to my career life.
The materials introduced me to new information regarding the career. For instance, I discovered that there is no much difference between the masters and PhD levels of the career. Both of them can serve in the same positions other than a few that offers a PhD holder a competitive advantage. Further, I also noted that there is a link between social work, counseling, and psychology courses, as professionals in the fields can sometimes perform the same roles.
With the information gained by going through the two materials, I consider clinical and counseling psychology as my career path. The career is associated with a lot of opportunities, and I would be able to make a change in the lives of a lot of people.
