A Museum: Preserving Art, Culture, and History
A museum is a permanent establishment, a location or a structure where works of art, cultural, historical, scientific specimens, research, and heritage are preserved for use in education, study, and enjoyment of the public. One of the biggest museums in the world, the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) is situated on the upper west side of Manhattan in New York City. 45 exhibition spaces are housed in 28 connected structures that make up the foundation. More than 33 million specimens of plants, fossils, animals, minerals, meteorites, rocks, human remains, and cultural artifacts are on display at the exhibit. There are more than 2,000,000 square feet in the museum. The museum's first two presidents were John David Wolfe (1870-1872) and Robert L. Stuart (1872-1881) and they were both among the museum founders. Although the museum is quite old, the aspects of human origins underline the exciting bit concerning the exhibition hall.
Human Origins and Cultural Halls
Hall of African people: The building of African people is situated behind Akeley Hall of African mammals and underneath Sanford hall of North American birds. It comprises four ecosystems found in Africa which include: River valley, Grassland, Forest, and Desert. The building has notable exhibits which include an extensive collection of spiritual costumes displayed in the woodland forest section, different African societies based on hunting and gathering, cultivation and animal domestication. The museum highlights each type of community concerning their historical, political, spiritual and ecological perspectives.Some of the tribes and African society featured includes River valley: Ancient Egyptians, Nubians, Kuba and Lozi, Grasslands: Pokot, Shilluk, and Barawa, Forest-Woodland: Yoruba, Kofyar and Mbuti, Desert: Ait Atta and Tuareg. One of the new African human cultures is hunting and gathering where human being collected wild plants and pursuing wild animals. Hunting and gathering are one of the significant successful adaptations covering at least 90 percent of human history. In 1970's Lewis Binford suggested that early humans were obtaining food via scavenging and not hunting. Old humans lived in the forest and woodlands which allowed them to collect fruits, seafood, eggs and nuts besides scavenging.Instead of killing large animals for meat they used carcasses of such animals that had either been killed by other animals or that had died of natural causes. The hunter and gatherers survived in sparsely wooded areas and dispersed through regions of high productivity while avoiding highly dense forest cover. A method still used by modern times which comprises long distance running as in persistence hunting. Forest gardening was used as a source of food for the production system in various part of the world. Many African cultures continue their hunter-gatherer ways of life although their numbers have declined as a result of growing agriculture and pastoral communities. As the number and the size of rural farmers' increases, they expand into lands previously occupied by the hunter-gatherers which now results in human reliance upon the modern agriculture.
In Conclusion
In conclusion, most of the hunter-gatherers are now nomadic or semi-nomadic, and they live in semi-permanent settlements. They do not have permanent leaders and the person taking that responsibility at any time depends on the task being undertaken. In addition to social and economic similarity in hunter-gatherer humanities, there is regularly, though not always sexual purity whereby they are grouped based on the kinship and tribe membership.
