All About Critical Thinking

Critical thinking involves making judgments that are well-thought out, reasonable and logical. Critical thinking whenever one is involved in an argument or discussion that may lead to decision making. A critical think does not accept arguments and make conclusions anyhow, but instead, they will have to access the situation, consult their minds before making responses. Before concluding ing, the critical thinker needs to ask questions and get answers satisfactorily enough to convince him.

One of the significant qualities of a critical thinker is being inquisitive. An excellent example of a critical thinker with this quality is my mother. In most families, a decision made by the family father cannot be reversed easily. A different situation exists at my place since my mother must question whatever project that father intends to implement before the actual implementation takes place (Edward, 17).

A critical thinker is always self-confident. An example of a person with such quality is James, my course mate. Whenever our philosophy instructor argues about the occurrence of any phenomenon, James has to question it before he comes to an agreement that such a phenomenon exists.

Open-mindedness and having divergent views is another quality of a critical thinker. This quality is exhibited by our sociology instructor. The instructor has got different ways of approaching different sociological situations. This makes her able to deal with people with different thoughts on the same subject (Edward, 17).

Critical thinkers always understand and respect opinions of other people. My philosophy instructor is such a person. In philosophy, different people have got a different understanding of a given phenomenon. When students are answering such questions, they may have different views on the same aspect. Sometimes, their views may be divergent from his views. In such a scenario, he has got a way of answering students and convinces them to the extent that they end up in the same track (Edward, 17).

Other qualities of a critical thinker include having a concern of being well-informed, being flexible to accept and take other people’s opinions and always willing to revise and change his or her views when change is a real need. Critical thinkers are also prudent when making or suspending judgments, honest when facing own biases, stereotypes and prejudices among others.
