Al Gore's Speech on Climate Emergency

Al Gore's Speech on Climate Emergency

Al Gore, both an environmental activist and politician in his own right gave out his speech at the Yale University, and this was in 2004, with the principal topic being on climate emergency. This topic was based on the argument that there was a fast need of ensuring to change the rapid decline in climate and the environment, which was mainly caused by some human actions undertaken in the atmosphere. Through the different facts and statistics that Gore outlined to appeal to the emotions of the audience, Gore succeeds through the show and this is due to the extreme changes in climate conditions, and the environment has been seen to take the turn for the worst (Gore, 460).

Gore's Primary Aim

Gore's primary aim was to illustrate all the primary causes of climate change that have further caused a shift in the environment, with Al Gore mainly putting into consideration the rise in population coupled up with the new technology as a way of proving that it climate change is highly based on human actions and that there were no solutions found yet. In this speech, Gore further uses some informative terminology that holds both precise evidence, and detailed graphs outlining the different results of global warming on the environment we operate in. In his first introductory statement of the term Climate Emergency, there is show of how the phrase intends to convey the message it holds (Gore, 461).

The Message of Climate Emergency

The message, in this case, evaluates the crisis at hand, which holds an unusual sense of urgency, and as Gore puts it so should it be seen as an emergency. Through addressing his particular concerns from the very beginning of his speech Gore then creates a proper basis for the rest of his remarks. In his speech, Gore speaks of the various reasons for the constant deterioration of the environment, and he further describes the greenhouse effect, which as he explains it causes gains in the temperature of the environment, together with resulting in the total climate change. There is also the subsequent increase of carbon dioxide, which affects the concentration of the air that individuals operate in (Gore, 461).

Impact on Living Organisms and Materials

This change in the structure of the air does not only affect the living organisms who have the capabilities of inhaling this air, but it also affects the materials grown in the form of plants and food products. Through a clear depiction of the sun, and the rays that are seen shining down to an icecap, this particular illustration used by Gore is used to show off the effects when the sun's heat makes all the existing ice caps at melt. Further from this, there is also the influence of climate emergency on our respective cultures, and in a statement in the speech he claims that the existing relationship between the human race and the planet has completely changed, this is due to the fact that all the literature used in the past promised of a long-lasting relationship between the earth and human beings, a point the current state of the world has altered that as at now.

Causes of Global Warming

This claim is further used in explaining where Al Gore finds the real cause of global warming. When human beings had just begun inhabiting the earth, the concerns that existed put more attention into both the care and the stability of the earth. But the basis of learning on climate and the surface is forthwith changeable, with human beings seen to have an entirely diverse association with the planet. The association has widely altered, and this is at a significant cost on the operation of human beings. Different views by human beings on the planet is attested to the cultural factors, and with this Gore addresses the deterioration in the relationship through three various causes, the first one being on the increase in population and subsequent growth, and as he states that the increase in population is what is driving for the demand of water, food, and energy, this as seen is what leads to the intensity of the pressure on human resources.

Role of Technology

The second primary cause is attributed to technology, and this is because technology as a component comes with its own set of responsibilities. It is then critical to understand the negative consequences that come up as a result of the technology used. The final factor, in this case, is attributed to the way we think. Al Gore states on how human beings have chosen to look at Global warming as an issue that is slow and an eventual problem, with this he reminds us that there are a lot of changes happening in the planet, and they are happening at a faster rate than anyone had ever imagined. Despite the fact that the problems may not be facing us as human beings directly, reduced climate conditions standards have the capacity of changing the way the world works in future.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is imperative that after reading the climate emergency by Al Gore that one must then put all the illustrated theories in action, this is because of the in-depth analysis of the effects of climate conditions as at now and in the near futures. It is therefore essential to first understand the impact that human beings have on the environment and change that to a better one that fosters climate change in a positive way.
