McDonaldization's Impacts on Management
McDonaldization has far-reaching impacts, especially on the management of different systems in the society, including government institutions. The concept of McDonaldized systems has continued to be perceived as the most effective in enhancement of efficiency in the management of business organizations and other key institutions. The overarching goals of McDonaldization are an improvement in effectiveness, calculability, and control, as well as standardization. There are some limited advantages of McDonaldization in the society. For instance, through the process, it is possible for business organizations to remarkably reduce the cost of production, improve conveniences when serving customers as well as seamless production processes (Ritzer 234).
Adverse Effects of McDonaldization
However, the adverse effects of the McDonaldization often tend to be overshadowed. For instance, the adverse impacts of McDonaldization have permeated not only in the management of small businesses but also in work, healthcare, politics, and families. There are numerous shortcoming associated with the concept of McDonaldization in the management of business organizations. The McDonaldized management concept plays critical roles in challenging the management of small business organizations to embrace improved management approaches regarding efficiency, calculability, predictability and enhancement of control. However, the management approach tends to discourage creativity and innovativeness in the management of business organizations. The system mainly relies on predictable outcomes in the production process leaving little room for creativity among the workforce. To a more significant extent, McDonaldization has impacted negatively virtually in most aspects of everyday life in the society. In other words, the perceived rationality of the McDonaldization is irrational. Thus, the application of McDonaldization in the management of business organizations and other institutions should be carried out in a balanced manner (Ritzer z233).
