The compassion of human suffering that is portrayed in the work of Mother Teresa, Simone Weil, Martin Luther King and other movie characters tells much about the attributes of a secular saint. They acknowledged that people have souls and bodies, and therefore they would work hard to improve the human conditions to satisfy the whole self of individuals. Martin Luther uses the secular and Christian point of views in his argument to discourage discrimination based on race which is treated as violence against humankind. Simone Weil argues that a person must do all it take to meet his body basic needs and to satiate the soul requirements of other individuals.
Dr Ambrosio describes a secular saint as a person who will look for the meaning of a hero and a saint. This act is displayed by the story of Simone Weil who died while still searching for the purpose. Her spiritual aspect and dedication to serving humanity make her embody a life of a saint. Mother Teresa exemplified the life of a saint by selflessly helping the homeless and destitute people in the society regardless of their nationality or race. She believed that people should try to improve others without attaching a cost to the service.
Simone Weil was influenced immensely by the Greek philosophy. She advocates that a secular saint can only be seen by her goodness, justice vision, and quality of being straightforward. Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, and Simone Weil all concur in the concept of justice and recognising as good people those who strive to do good. However, her faith and belief about people do not reflect the practical life of humankind. The lives of the three served to personify the presence of a secular saint as they significantly impacted on the lives of the people who were close to them.
Part Two
The secular saint firmly adheres to the Greek philosophy which defines the context of justice very straightforward and simple. She implied that justice is done as long as no harm is done to anyone and when an act does not hurt any individual. Both Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King champion the notion of being simple and straightforward when dealing with fellow human beings (Cover " Mollenkopf, 2004). Like the secular saint, the two have the same belief that the most important justice that one can give herself is to have faith in oneself. In so doing, they attracted a massive following of persons who were looking for justice and had confidence that they would deliver them the much-sought justice.
Martin Luthe King severally used Greek philosophy in his most of his speeches. For example, the statement that the freedom that man has when being born can surpass the goodness that is obtained through justice. Mother Theresa believed that doing good deeds to humanity and showing utmost concern to the poor in the society irrespective of race and nationality can be likened to serving the Almighty God. It is evident from their works that the three individuals were united by the belief in the philosophy of service, goodness, and justice. Service and goodness are virtues attributed to saints. Therefore, the saints can deliver justice to people because they respect the people who do good and honour those who offer themselves to serve others. Another similarity is that three would refer to God when seeking for justice.
