This paper will explore the coin currency as the subject of final research. This is a commercial relic that was conceived in approximately the fifth century for the purpose of serving as a unit of exchange during transactions for commodities. Europeans are credited for bringing the coin currency to the New World who, in turn, adopted them and continue to utilize them to date as the primary mode of payment, especially because of its convenience. However, the coin currency presents various interesting aspects that entice people to wonder why it is still in use, particularly in the present globalized sphere where virtual money is literally taking over. First, the coin seems like an archaic invention that served its best purpose centuries ago. Secondly, coins are heavy to carry and one would require a large holder or space to hold them. Given that paper money was introduced a long time ago, it only seemed prudent that they would replace the coins. However, this has not happened, nor does it appear to be happening any time soon.
In pursuit of this, the coin represents an interesting object of study; it has withstood the test of time and continues to be used for transactions. It would be important to note that, unlike paper money, the coin is long-lasting since it can withstand all kinds of weather and could be smelted later to be used in the production of other coins or different metal artefacts. For it to survive the contemporary world, it must have played a critical role in history. However, the main shortcoming is that, given its long history, it is difficult to pinpoint with accuracy the early phases of the coin’s life and expound on each with precision. Already, there are numerous studies on this subject, which means that there is need to consider and sift through which information is applicable to this research.
