Sociology is the scientific study of human interactions, culture, and social problems. It analysis the behavior of humans in response to social and cultural factors. The essay scrutinises the events of “The Stanford Prison Experiment” and “SES 360 Class Divided” social experiments.
Lessons Learnt
The social experiments conclude that social role and psychological factors influence people’s behaviors and performance. According to “The Stanford Prison Experiment,” guards harass prisoners, and in response to the harassment, prisoners engage in anti-social acts to counter the acts of the guards. “SES 360 Class Divided” illustrated that social problems like discrimination, racism, and prejudice influenced the performance of students in Jane Elliott’s class. The two social experiments urge people to be considerate and humane while interacting with one another. People should use their social roles and positions to help all people equally regardless of their social status or characteristics. Such actions improve the lives experience communities.
Living down to people expectations limits the potential to achieve beyond their anticipations. While attaining aspirations is a positive thing, restricting oneself to them have negative results, as one could have performed much better. Moreover, failure to meet these expectations could make one disappointed. Expectations cause demands, request, and orders on people making them stressed.
Discrimination and its legitimization cause social unrest as the minority parties demand fair and equal right as the majority. Discrimination in the societies is the root of the majority of social evils like fraud, corruption, and victimization. It also causes non-utilization of communities’ potential talent and careers.
Research Questions
1. How social roles and culture in prisons does influence the conduct and behaviors of prisoners and guards?
2. How does discrimination in schools influence the behaviors, class participation and performance of students?
3. What are the major social problems in the society and what are the roots of these problems?
Conclusion
In conclusion, the social experiments illustrate that social role, discrimination, and racisms are the roots of social unrest in the society.
