Effective Border Control
Effective border security is a key factor for a country that is fighting to implement counter-terrorism measures. Border control is the first move in defending a country against terrorist's attacks and illegal movement of goods across the borders. Many members of states find it challenging to monitor land borders hence deployment of massive human resources and equipment to facilitate border control. A threat from terrorist has increased the pressure to increase border security and preventing foreign terrorist fighters travel.
Coordinated Border Management
Coordinated border management (CBM) strategies require coordination of competent authorities in providing highly effective and efficient management of national borders (Argueta, 2016). Border control is further enhanced through advanced passenger information and communication systems that transmit data of incoming and outgoing passengers to the border security authorities. Border security costs a lot of taxpayers' money with over twelve billion US dollars being spent on border control in the United States. Illegal immigration affects the safety and welfare of citizens and control of this illegal migration are only achieved through a border control.
Illegal Immigration and Its Impact
Illegal immigration is associated with drug trafficking and gobbling of jobs, crimes and other activities that affect the well-being of citizens (Carter & Poast, 2017). A lot of money is therefore used in inspection activities and trade facilitation across the border. An improvement in the enforcement of laws that govern entry and exit out of the country of people and goods has continued to improve the level of security in countries. Employment of technology and modern ways of controlling border security are believed to contribute towards safety and reduced incidents of terrorist attacks.
Conclusion
Ensuring an effective border control is an integral part of countering terrorism and controlling entry of goods into a country. Numerous benefits of employing border control have been highlighted. Therefore, the costs of border security are worth the nation's taxpayer's money.
