She accepts to bury her brother Polyneice defying the edict of Creon. This act invites response from Creon, who wants to put her to death. In my view, the first instance when Antigone defies death is when she proceeds and carries out rituals and even rites for the deceased and even having the opinion that the body should be buried decently. An opinion that was not popular. On the part of Petit, it is surprising how he is determined to walk on the fire across the towers. He goes ahead even to impersonate being one of workers in the building just to have the agenda fulfilled. Though a risky venture, walking far away above the ground, his passion really drives him to defy the possibility of death. Finally, Jack Burns has defied many odds of life like death through his passion for comedy that has transformed the industry globally. At the age of 84, he is still actively involved in matters comedy and script writing, something that has seen him continue strong.
What appears to be their attitude towards the possibility of death?
Initially, Antigone is defiant and do not seem to be worried that her actions could result into her life being taken away. However, upon Creon passing a decree that Antigone is to be buried alive in the caves, she seems to very remorseful and regrets her actions. She even regrets that she is not married, depicting the much regrets she is undergoing. Philip Petit attitude towards the whole experience of walking on a high wire linking the Twin towers was motivated by the high attention that this would attract. Jack Burn, also known as John Francis Burns has been very hopeful and optimistic in his career, an attitude that has seen age gracefully towards his death.
What is more important to each of them-more important than their lives?
Antigone is described to be stubborn. She is driven by the desire to achieve what she feels is right. In her conviction, there is no need for her brother, Polyneices not be accorded a decent burial. For Petit, what motivates him is achievement and public attention that the action would attract. Even attempts by NYPD and PAPD officer to threaten him that they would pluck him off using helicopter did not deter Petit from accomplishing his agenda. On the part of Jack Burns, transformation of the comedy industry has been one of the driving forces in his life.
The life of Antigone
Her life was largely influenced by her actions to defy existing authorities more so with regard to burial of Polyneices. She can be described to be stubborn, a trait that results into much regrets later in life when she is to be enclosed in the caves alive. So, generally, her life is full of negativities.
