Art and Modernity in the Arts
Art has always been present in the world's history with painters adopting different techniques to illustrate their visualization of various aspects of nature. Modernity has introduced a new element in the art industry with many acknowledging its presence through its application in architect, sculpture, and painting. Modernity is indeed an old concept that saw its way in the art industry during the industrial revolution that was progressively witnessed in the European nations. Essentially, this resulted in the invention of new technologies that changed the entire appearance of the urban areas. In fact, many were attracted to migrate into the cities in search of work. Following the huge developments including the introduction of photography, painters were drawn by the illuminating visual landscapes that were embedded with varieties of current fashions and spectacles. Fundamentally, this was a significant opportunity for artists to improve their skills. As a result, some embraced the idea of modern life as the impetus for their work. In this discussion, I will demonstrate modernity in the arts such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Robie House, Chicago, 1909, Edouard Manet, Olympia and Laure, 1863 and Frank Lloyd Wright and Studio, Designs for the Guggenheim Museum, NY, 1943-59.
The Robie House
The Robie House by Wright is an excellent depiction of how art is used in the demonstration of modern life. Wright accurately developed the building with influence from the flat, expansive prairie landscape of the U.S. Midwest where he spent his entire life. The prairie that he imitated was developed in the modern times and has a natural beauty that impresses everyone. Every aspect of the building is established with the incorporation of features that represent the contemporary life. For instance, the gently sloping roofs, sheltering overhangs, the outreaching wall, heavy-set chimneys and private gardens is a clear illustration of the different facets of modernity. The house also a fireplace, a trait that was not present in the traditional times. The building is also divided into small proportions making it more illuminating.
Olympia and Laure
The Olympia and Laure by Manet is an art used to represent the revolution experienced by Paris. Olympia is displayed naked with a black servant women showering flowers to her. The art is a revision of slavery which was an activity that many were against in the modern life. Further, Olympia is displayed wearing items that are only present in the contemporary life. Among them include a gold bracelet, a silk flower, and Louis XV slippers. Indeed, all these symbolize wealth, a representation of modern life.
The Guggenheim Museum
Lastly, the Guggenheim Museum by wright is an architect art that gives an impression of modernity to everyone who sets eyes on it. The Museum's interior space is made of a spiral ramp which is a definite representation of contemporary art. I believe the conventional design of the building gives everyone an opportunity to have a clear overview of its entire outlook from a particular direction. Most importantly, the white color complexion adopted by the artist gives it a unique look at modern life.
Conclusion
Overall, modernity is an aspect that has dramatically influenced artist to develop paintings that give a reflection of contemporary life. The elegant look of current landscapes has influenced painters to advance their techniques. Indeed, through accurate observation, the Robie House, the Guggenheim Museum, and Olympia and Laure are an excellent representation of some individuals who have adopted the modern life as the impetus for their work.
