The Influence of Ethnicity, Race, and Culture


The influence of ethnicity, race, and culture on people raises controversial discussions that have never had amicable solutions. Individuals perceive and judge one another based on where they come from and what their culture dictates as well as their ethnic origin. People around the world have aligned themselves towards certain social, economic, and political activities that tend to tolerate and embrace their culture. According, to (Salett and Diane 34), some individuals prefer to talk about the negativities and impacts of cultural ties while others would want to leave the effects undiscussed. In consideration to the above mentioned points of view, this paper presents a personal experience of our races, ethnicity, and culture.<\/p>

Political Activities and Interactions


In examining the political activities and the manner in which people interact politically, it is inferred that the political decisions are mostly affected by our races and culture. People vote in blocks and support those who are of their ethnic origin as well as race or leaders with the tendency to tolerate their cultural practices and beliefs. For instance in 2008 presidential election in the United States of America, the former president Barack Obama had many votes from the Black- Americans including the African Americans and Latinos. Similarly, Obama sympathized with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) groups. As a result, they voted for him in great numbers. The LGBT group wanted people to identify with them and know that they are important part of the society in America. Ethnically, the black environment provides a favorable environment in which various communities raise their grievances when they act in solidarity with the black communities (Moore 1). Nonetheless, it is apparent that people elect leaders based on their ethnic ties, race and culture. The government also acts in support of certain racial groups. For instance, the nullification of certain aspects of the Stop and Frisk policy proved that there is ethnic profiling. The police stopped and frisk majority of the Blacks and Latinos compared to whites (Salett and Diane 77).<\/p>

Economic Impacts


Economically, the identity of the people in terms of character, behavior and adherence to the rule of law has both the positive and the negative impacts on the economic status of the nation. In stable nations, states or countries, the diversity that results from ethnic affiliations, cultural practices and beliefs, as well as differences in race encourages productivity (Salett and Diane 89). The countries are stable because there is peace and harmony as well as conducive environments for perfect or greater interaction. For example, in the United States of America,\u00a0 majority of the citizens are living the American dream since they have embraces their individual difference and able to tolerate one another\u2019s cultural practices and beliefs. As such, they are able to share progressive ideas that are creative and innovative leading to high level of productivity. In addition, businesses are doing well since people are not purchasing goods and services based on racial association, ethnic relations or common cultures, but on the ability of the business person to offer quality product and cost effective prices (Salett and Diane 133). On the other hand, ethnicity and races as well as variation in cultural beliefs have had detrimental impacts in countries that are unstable. For example, in Nigeria and South Sudan where there are high levels of corruption, political instability, poverty, and unequal distribution of economic resources, the inability to recognize differences in a people\u2019s ethnic ties, practices that are informed by culture and race have always created conflicts and wars.<\/p>

Social Impacts


Socially, I have experiences that culture, race and ethnicity can affect an individual\u2019s health, communication at workplace, and career outcomes. Racism is apparent in any organization though majority of the employees would rather keep quite than talk for fear of losing their job opportunities (Twine 1996). Many people have gotten jobs based on their ethnic relations and race. The effect is that the managers create unhealthy workplace environments in which it is the companies that always suffer (Salett and Diane 145). For example, such practices have often created tensions with the companies with the consequences of damaging the reputation of the organization, affects the workers synergy and reduced productivity since they compete with each other instead of working as a team to achieve the companies\u2019 objectives.<\/p>

Conclusion<\/h2>

Ultimately, the impacts of culture, race, and ethnicity are obvious either positively or negatively. In countries where people have matured democratically and positively integrated diversity based on culture, ethnicity and race, there are political stability, equality in distribution of economic resources, and proper social interactions where discriminations and conflicts are minimum. On the other hand, inability to realize that people are diverse and that their identity is based on their races, ethnic affiliation, and cultural norms has led to reduced rates of productivity in many countries. In such environments, communication is poor and the employees are unable to share the better ideas they may be having towards solving certain challenges. Eventually, their country suffers economic under development since innovative ideas and levels of creativity are hampered, socially as there is poor interaction and politically due to constant conflict and misunderstandings.<\/p>
