The Effects of Shelter on Living Conditions

Shelter is a basic human need that affects how people interact with each other, their attitude towards life, and their ability to satisfy other needs. Human living conditions in different parts of the world are different due to uneven distribution of resources. People have different types of homes depending on their level of income, the environment, or government policies. My living conditions are great and better than those of homeless families living in different parts of the United States.

The main difference between my lifestyle and that of homeless people is that I am in a good position to have a regular schedule to carry out different activities without tension. Homeless families do not know the next day because the space available for them could be unavailable.  I have the peace of mind and I feel inspired to keep improving my life. Most homeless people do not feel at peace due to frequent distractions that make it difficult for them to live comfortably.

Most people who are homeless in America do not have access to resources. As a result, they are not able to utilize the limited ones available to improve their living standards. In my case, I am able to access various natural resources such as wood that can be of monetary value. Most homeless people live on streets where only buildings are available.

Different types of structures affect living conditions. People who have a permanent home feel motivated to improve the quality of life. Homeless people may not be in a good position to seek for education at a nearby school because they do not know whether they will still be living in the area the next day. Homelessness also results to increased stress levels and diseases (Glendening, Zachary and Marybeth 309). People with no shelter also are exposed to health risks and insecurity.

Homelessness is a major issue that negatively affects the lifestyle of people. Some of the major challenges faced by homeless people include: low motivation, increased health risks, limited access to resources, insecurity, and lack of comfort. A person with a person shelter is more productive than a homeless individual.
