Upon going through the article, I support the writer’s argument that secularization is likely to increase in the future and promote the loss of religious authority on key aspects of social life. The author clearly indicates more people in the society are becoming modernized, making religion to lose its significance in social and governance. This is absolutely through considering the fact that scientific innovations have corrupted the mind of many individuals. As opposed to the traditional era, whereby most social and governance aspects were dealt with in accordance with religious values, they are currently based on institutional norms. This is among the effects of secularization in the modern world.
Moreover, I agree with the author’s argument that religion had more influence on individuals in the past as opposed to now because the social components have created more power, which is diminishing religious authority. As far as fundamentalists exist, many individuals are not going to follow the scripts perfectly. This is extremely true because the current society is characterized by a variety of challenges that propels individuals to behave differently. Some will have to assume various religious ways of life to achieve various goals in life. As the author argues, fundamentalism is likely to be affected negatively in the future.
Overall, the author has examined the topic comprehensively by offering examples to support his/her arguments. For instance, the author notes that religion has lost significance among individuals. The author supports this statement by offering an example of a group of learners who never discusses issues relating to religion. I, therefore, agree that secularization is going to grow in the future and eventually reduce religious authority. However, fundamentalism is likely to grow in the future due to increased religious freedom.
