The Effectiveness of The Child Protection System

Putting up child protection ensures the safeguard of children from varying harmful activities that they are exposed to from their parents or the environment they live in. It is important to address issues that affect the children as a can severely impact the young ones both psychologically and also physically. The report on child safeguarding practice was collected by Prof. Eileen Munro. The main objective of the report was on relieving social workers from the undue bureaucracy in the UK and enables them to work with families while protecting the children who are facing the threats aforementioned. The report demanded the removal of the regular child protection targets that are centrally-imposed rules and regulations to enable social workers and children the freedom to exercise judgement and professional skills.

The recommendations proved to be very effective in changing the child protection services. However, the recommendations did face challenges as people within the society were unable to adhere to the set rules.

The research done includes an interview method of collecting data to gain first-hand information from the parents and caregivers with the assumption that the respondents are all literate. The questionnaires given were close-ended and were self-administered.

Learning from the survey

Results from the questionnaire varied based to the question asked. The interviewers then grouped the answers of both yes and no and used the numerical strength of the answers to determine which one between the yes and no had more responses for each question asked. The two main questions that were much interest to the researcher are whether the parents could relate the poor academic performance of their children to child maltreatment at home or school. The number of people who participated in the interview was 62 but only 50 correctly filled the questionnaire.

For instance, the data obtained from the questionnaire administered to the parents and caregivers had the age of the children and academic performance and mood disorders as the variables (Deangelis and Fontanarosa 2010, p.383)

The categories, in this case, are based on the age of the children. For the subsequent analysis of the data, the grouping of the age data occurred in the interval of two.

Some of the methods include tables, graphs and in particular bar charts that show every data point in details (Hesabi et al. 2015, p.1109).

The Figure 1 below represents the hypothetical data in the table format obtained from the responses of the participants in the questionnaires.

The mean for performance of the students is 9.64 whereas that for the mood disorders is 10.18. The two means are neither too large nor small but shows the size of the impact of child maltreatment on the academic performance and mood disorders.

That implies that the biggest number of the people who responded yes with regards to whether abuse of children leads to poor performance can go as high as twenty.

Analysis of the implementation

The Effectiveness of the Child Protection System

The study by Moule (2011) identified that an attempt to advance the effectiveness of the child protection system under social workers did not offer the best protection to the children, compared to the protection they receive in schools, and social workers must comprehend the recommendation by Munro (2011) about the current system of child protection. Unfortunately, there are numerous precincts to an up-to-date collection of the data that confine social worker’s capacity to make an inclusive evaluation of the demand and the efficiency of the child protection method (Parton 162).

Challenges faced during the survey

People who have had no experience in taking care of children were unable to give appropriate responses as required by the research. The parents must be informed about the questionnaires in advance so that they do not feel as if their privacy is violated. Answering the questions is totally mandatory and no caregiver should be condemned for choosing not to participate in the study. Youths disguised as parents should not be issued with the questionnaires as they may fill in inappropriate responses, thereby jeopardizing the survey. Parents are recommended to fill in the questionnaires truthfully and ask questions whenever they seek clarification. The questionnaires need to maintain anonymity as some of the parents may feel insecure to give appropriate responses.

. Selecting parents from either similar social backgrounds or parents who have children on the same grade may not be effective as it will not offer a variation of responses.

There is a pressure in offering care to parents (Walker 78), and according to the researcher, the correct method to offer services is by the family making voluntary choices to obtain the support. There are family whose parenting levels raises concerns and the pertinent services make tireless efforts to be conscious of the support and also advance their cooperation. According to the review by Higgins (2017), an essential part of this evaluation’s remit concern is making a recommendation on advancing the social work practice (Higgins 453). When young people come into contact with social care of the children, their essential need is to understand the issues they together with their filial have, as well as for the delivery of support to solve them so as to advance the well-being and safety of children.

Developing future opportunities

The questionnaire also caters for such individuals as they may have an ample knowledge in taking care of their young ones. It will seek to understand how these individuals implement the policies in their lives thus ensure a better living for their children.

Conclusion

Local authorities have a constitutional responsibility to offer a child protection services for the most susceptible children. Local authorities have several constitutional functions under the 1989 and 2004 Children Act. The Development Board of the LGA (Local Government Association) commissioned the Early Intervention Foundation to appraise the evidence on what work in child protection as well as to link this against services being offered and the type of decision making in a smaller number of local establishments. This paper was produced as part of an extensive project on advancing consequences in the system of child protection, commissioned by Early Intervention Foundation, supported by Local Government Authorities and NSPCC. It is also evidenced in the paper that family is the best place to raise a child as the parents and society provide services the child needs for survival.
