According to Steve Albini, addressing a congregation with information stored in his laptop while standing on a platform believes that internet had solved a lot of problems, he argues that back in the year 1993, the time he published “The problem with Music”, the major label-dominated industry was of low quality and inefficient since it exploited musicians and still produced below par music. He was glad through his speech at the keynote address that technology has come to the aid since it has addressed the issue of inequalities and dismantled the poor music labelling system("Face The Music 2014 - Keynote Address: Steve Albini").
He explains that he has been in the music industry for a period of thirty years working as a radio club DJ, recording engineer, and a fanzine writer and he had not achieved much during that period. However, in an era of technology, he is in an excellent position to evaluate the state of the music scene today as he can easily relate to how it is used to be and how it has been("Face The Music 2014 - Keynote Address: Steve Albini").
Albini noted that he appreciates how the internet has given the opportunity for music lovers to get access to a cornucopia from every corner of the world. He is quoted as saying, “That’s what the internet has become for music fans. Plus bleacher seats for a cheering section.”
According to Albini, he believes that internet has placed the world on the way to democratic utopia which does not require corrupt figures of a fading music past or the flailing. He mentioned that the music industry needs to figure out how digital distribution will work for everyone. He argues that there will never be a time to be involved in music as a musician or a fan that this internet period. Steve Albini states that at this internet era, he has witnessed more bands and more music than never before in his entire life ("Face The Music 2014 - Keynote Address: Steve Albini").
