Sexual Harassment as Espoused in ‘The Silent Breakers’

The authors of ‘The Silent Breakers' talks about sexual harassment, and abuse that affects celebrities and women at large. The issues of pervasive sexual harassments that criminalize and incidents that happened to women are not addressed. Being recognized as a group of people of the year 2017 in the time's magazine, it has been an excellent representation to all women in the world. The women and men who silence come from all races, social class, occupations, and all religious affiliations and some come forward about the experiences they encounter. The article also highlights Tarana Burke, founder of the ‘ME Too' Movement that talked about unprivileged people of color affected by sexual harassment and abuse. Being endorsed as a person of the year is a big break to show society that sexual abuse and bullying is not right but inhuman.

According to the New York Times magazine, the article promoted self-empowerment and later Carty who stated that women and men of different races, occupations, and religions are affected[1]. This piece was a direct quote in the article that showed sexual crimes is all around us where ever we are. We should allow other people to shake us down and humiliate us because of our circumstances. Any act of violence towards women is barbaric, and the legal system should take its course. I believe that sexual harassment and sexual abuse are intolerable and offenders of such acts should be reprimanded and charged harshly. The victims are subjected to emotional and psychological stress that affects them mentally and may lead to suicide attempts.

Fighting Sexual harassment and abuse

I agree with the article as it empowers women and men who have been affected by sexual abuse to speak up and be confident of them. Reasons to fight against violence is by having public forums in the news and articles on the rights of people who are victims of sexual abuse. The report' The Silent Breakers' shows the experiences of women in the workplace harassed and even raped by their manager or bosses. Such acts of undesirable behavior towards women should be taken action and reforms to come up to protect the girl child and women.

They encourage others to step and rebuild their lives after such ordeals through counseling, therapy, and meditation to let go of the trauma. There have been high rates of gendered violence which cases have reported to authority stated by Hlavka 2014[2]. Many women do not report sexual abuse incident mostly because of shame and security of their lives. These acts make sexual abuse normalized in society, where men and women who are affected do not come forward to report their attackers.

Conclusion

The society has grown to be hazardous to women and young girls due to the degradation of moral values and ethics. Other prominent persons and personalities have come together in fighting sexual abuse against women. They include Oprah Whitney, Taylor Swift and many others who were also victims of violence or harassment. Normalizing sexual crimes is imprudent and mediocre since it makes criminals have the courage to do the same. We should stand up and fight sexual discrimination and violence towards our women, children, and men. Protecting the rights of person's is the start to prevent sexual harassment and abuse to women.
