Analysis of Religion in Naples
After reading the article, I found myself disagreeing with the way religion is used and practiced in Naples. The city being dominated by the Catholic faith, I would expect that the residents would live by the scriptures they believe in. However, it is evident that most people have misused religion in this city and it has lost its meaning. For instance, the article starts by narrating the story of a priest who had committed some indecent offenses and was drawn on a cart, but upon making a sign of blessing the crowd pursuing the cart fall on their knees, despite the sinful nature of the priest (Benjamin and Lacis 163). As a religious leader, one should act as a role model to the congregation and live a life which is free from sin. Therefore, the priest was supposed to emulate the example that was set by Jesus Christ, who served the people and lived a holy life.
Society's Loss of Humanity
The article depicts how society has changed and lost its humanity. People nowadays have become selfish and are more self-centered than in the earlier days. The article reveals how businessmen and women have become money-centered and engage in activities that are only beneficial to them at the expense of other citizens just as it is in the case of Naples where hotel rooms are filled with many beds than they are supposed to have with the aim of making more profit. The article goes ahead to depict situations where neighbors are forced to take up the responsibilities of raising kids who have lost their parents since they have no immediate family members to take care of them as the society has lost touch of important things like family unity. This situation leaves us with the question of claiming to be religious, yet failing to live per the beliefs of the religion.
