The United States Federal Policy Guidelines is used to estimate the eligibility of a person to get a welfare assistance. This may be either from private or public. In order to ascertain poverty level of the family you should look at the following factors: the number of family members, their expenses and level of income among others. In this case, in order to estimate if this family (4 members) qualifies’ for public assistance the United States Federal Policy Guidelines stipulate that if they are at least four members the annual income should be less than $25,100. In order to live a decent life the family will have to cut off some expenses. This will include: insurance policies such as car, life, homeowner’s/renter’s should be done away with. Under personal budgeting they should reduce magazine entertainment and gifts. The family ought to cut off on phone usage and maintenance and consider living in a low rent house without the option of paying mortgage. Under transportation they need to sell the personal car and mainly use public transportation. Clothes being durable, the family should spend less. Also they should consider using public hospitals. Being a family aiming to live a decent it should reduce its expenditure on charity.
In sum, in order for the family to live a decent life without welfare assistance they should consider spending at least $2091 a month. Their expenditure should be relatively as follows; Transportation - $140, Health care " Insurance -$150, Housing - $900, Education -$400, Food - $270, Charity - $20, Personal and durables – 160 Miscellaneous – 50. The estimated monthly expenditure should be at least $2091. With this the family can live and sustain itself comfortably without welfare assistance.
