Understanding the reasons for migration
Understanding the reasons for migration remains an important aspect for descents of Norwegian migrants who live in the United States. According to the immigration narrative, there are several reasons that prompted the migration of people from Norway into the United States. Such factors include economy, particularly during the depression where people experienced unemployment, had low paying jobs, or the fact that their jobs could not sustain them like farmers during drought. The second reason was family where most groups who moved into America had family members from Norway who had migrated earlier; as such, these members wrote letters back to their families in Norway, urging them to join them in the United States. Regardless of the reason for migration, it is evident that America served as a promise land to Norwegians where they would start a new and better life away from their country of origin.
Four Narratives
Four Narratives
Evidently, the United States has the highest number of immigrations who come to find greater opportunities in efforts to improve their lives and those of their families. However, while some migrant face challenges due to increased competition in America, some are able to find opportunities that improve their lives and those of their families back in their home country. Four migrants from South Africa, Trevor Noah, Elon Musk, Lesley-Ann Brandt, and Charlize Theron are examples of successful migrants; they have not only contributed to the American economy, but also made their home country proud. While Brandt and Theron pursued acting, Noah focused on stand-up comedy and Elon ventured into the technology sector. Although they are from different ethnicities from South Africa, and are of different gender, the four migrants serve as role models considering that they are successful in a foreign land due to their hard work and determination.
